September 16, 2022 by brennon
CMON are now over on Kickstarter with Dune: War For Arrakis, a brand new board game which sees you playing as the mighty houses of Atreides and Harkonnen as they seek to take control of the planet and the valuable spice.
Dune: War For Arrakis Kickstarter // CMON
Coming from the designers behind War Of The Ring, this game is focused on the events of the Dune novel by Frank Herbert. House Harkonnen and their allies are going to be fighting against what's left of House Atreides and their allies, the Fremen.
Dune: War For Arrakis - Details // CMON
Two to four players will be able to dive into a game of strategic warfare. In a two-player game, each player will control the powerful Houses in their entirety. If there are more than two players, the others take control of subfactions that are able to aid in the war effort for either side.
Baron Harkonnen is seeking to hunt and destroy all of his enemies in order to gain supremacy over Dune. Paul Atreides has a secret objective that he is seeking to attain before Baron Harkonnen can complete his own mission. It's an interesting balancing act between the two.
Harvesters will be trying to obtain spice in order to keep up with orders. Fremen will be ambushing harvesters to stop them and use these resources for themselves. Heroes will also be able to bring their power to bear in certain situations and turn the tide of battle in their favour. Oh, and there are also big sand worms looking to eat everyone!
Dune: War For Arrakis - Harvester Pledge // CMON
As well as all of the core elements that make up the Harvester Pledge, there are also loads of Stretch Goals and Add-Ons for you to choose from that are available via Kickstarter. If you're interested in learning more about the game, you can watch a video all about it from Quackalope.
Dune: War For Arrakis // Gameplay With The Designer
You can also dive into the Rulebook and find out all about the intricacies of the game. It certainly seems like a fun strategy game and I do trust the designers behind this. They did bring us War Of The Ring after all!
Are you going to be giving this one a look?

I am absolutely going to buy this game, but not from kickstarter – not at £66 for shipping and with such a modest discount for backing and rather weak stretch goals. It’s disappointing that such a great IP is getting such weak KS support – it should be going gangbusters, so many are being put off by the KS shipping cost. Shame.
I like what I see. Spice Must Flow.
Im going to wait until its in my local FLGS, CMON have lost the plot, who in their right mind is going to pay almost the same for the Core game in shipping and taxes, there is something very underhanded about this. The IP is being handled very poorly by CMON
CMON is the places great games go to die.
The Dune IP is being exploited more than any other today. CMON sub-licensing the IP from GF9 which already has published 2 games is telling. So what’s different here, its clearly all out the minis. Yes they are nice, a hit at what could be done if someone wanted to do a miniatures line. Does that make for a good game apart from bloating up the box, who knows. From the videos it seems okay, not a must have though. The KS discount is not an inducement to back this. With postage, tax etc.. probably getting it in retail will… Read more »
Ooh me likey likey big time.
As ever it looks pretty swish and I’m sure it will play well. Personally this isn’t the game that I’ve been waiting for. I wanted a mass combat game, possibly at a smaller scale that their usual output. Instead they have pressded the snooze button and just gone with what they think their buyers always want, which apparently pleny enough of us go for so what incentive to they have to do otherwise. Postage and and giving an ex-VAT headline price are absolutely outrageous tactics. What is listed as a $110 (£96.48) pledge is in fact (110+66 delivery + 20%… Read more »
The miniatures look good, but for a game like this they could just as easily have been tokens. And CMON still sticking with the KS Exclusive BS as well… Though most of those are minor characters in the story.
