March 26, 2018 by johnlyons
Today we're unboxing DreadBall 2nd Edition, the futuristic sports miniature game from Mantic Games.
Click here to get your copy of Dreadball 2nd Edition
DreadBall is a two-player game where players can dash, slam and dunk on their opponents. Move the referee out of sight of your own fouls or gain more dice through coach advice. Spectacular plays are rewarded with fan adulation in the form of skill cards.
In this video, we look at the array of miniatures between the types of players - the jack, the striker and the guard. We also look at two of the teams - the Ninth Circle Tree Sharks and the Draconis All-Stars, and also a sneak peek at the DreadBall Ultimate board.

DREADBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This version is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks nice…
Super awesome video, fingers crossed – i bought the 1st edition many moons ago, and they have been in storage – about to get them out as my hobby spark has been reignited, fingers crossed i win one of these awesome sets
Looking forward to playing some 2nd edition. Dreadball is a great game
Interesting, I am looking to this week to find out if it is worth getting into Dread Ball, the box looks ok, although I am not keen on the way they minis have been based.
it looks like they have made jacks useful again. Looking forward to trying the new rules out.
…forgot to mention that Speedball 2 is available for the Ipad.
DreadBall is close enough to Speedball, I don’t think it would take long to tweak the rules to make a Speedball game
Very nice improvements over the first edition
Love dreadball Need to give 2nd ed a try but my 1st ed league is still running (my nameless team, the Lost Atlantean Kings, is kicking ass 🙂 ) – maybe after I’ll look at a 2nd ed core set or an update thingy.
Tree sharks looking fierce though!
I was really toying with re-buying into dreadball after having to sell off my collection a few years ago. Looks like I’ve chosen the right time with a new set released. It must be a sign.
Fantastic – really excited to play 2nd Edition properly – tried the playtest rules out quite a bit last year and really enjoyed the changes from 1st Edition!
sounds amazing for someone who wants to start the game for the first time
The rules changes sounds good, the new teams sound fun, and I the matte board is a nice improvement too even if you’re not filming.
There’s a copy in our club, I’ll need to take a look 🙂
I am an original Dreadball Striker pledge Kickstarter backer. Delighted to see the evolution of the game. Always felt that Jacks were a bit naff. Hopefully they can be better utilized in tis edition !!
Box art reminds of the Rollerball movie (original… not the terrible reboot).
The players should have rollerblades….
Looks interesting, but the scoring system seems odd… slides back and forth?
It’s a really fun concept if you get to 7 it’s an automatic win otherwise the game becomes a tug of wär with scores being erased by your opponent. It’s one of my favourite parts
The tug of war is actually pretty great, the automatic game over at 7 points adds a lot of tension and rewards risk taking when you go for the big 3 point score.
Throw in the fact that you never reset the board after scoring and you will find that there is a lot of back and forth. If you throw everything forwards to score you risk leaving yourself open to conceding when the ball is fired back onto the field and your opponent gets the next activation.
Time to dig out my old Brokkrs
Speedball 2! That takes me back to a time of Cheese Toasties watching Transformers, followed by homework, dinner and speedball 2.
This new set looks great
Dreadball is the most played game in our gaming group, with two leagues and multiple single matches played. Can’t wait to run a league with the new 2nd edition rules, as it seems a lot of the changes are stuff we’d already started houseruling.
Dreadbaaallll!!!!
Nice to see Elmer & Dobbs made it out of the kickstarter campaign and into production.
This looks great!
This is my sports miniatures game of choice, definitely going to get this.
season 1-3 of 1st ed was top
Just finished my Brokkr team in time for 2nd Ed. Go check out my WAYPN pic!
they look great love the Iron Ancestor in there and the red and black is striking and because I’m a Down man I approve of them for team colours 😀
I need to paint mine… actually I have 26 teams that I need to paint, I think once my Irish are done I’ll be cleaning and colour priming.
played a rake of games last week getting back up to speed with it and it’s a lot of fun, really improved the game, the Sunday club may find a league in their future that they are unaware of 😉
Nice to see an update to this game. Will be fun to see what the week brings.
If sam is looking for a linguist, I’m a real cunning one.
I don’t think his bread is buttered that way son
*bing bong * This is a customer service announcement. Would the Carry On film enthusiast and winner of the bad joke competition in aisle 3 make his way quietly to the exit for his prize where he will be given a large one. Thank You *bing bong*
