Batman Dons His Cowl For Monolith’s Board Game
May 7, 2017 by brennon
Monolith has put together a render for the new Batman that will be part of the upcoming board game. Here's the Caped Crusader, getting ready to lay down the law...
This marks the beginning of a range of different renders before the launch of their game. Batman is shown here, swinging his fist to bring down some unfortunate goon who stood between him and his objective.
There are already fifty miniatures sculpted for the game already by a range of different talent like Arnaud Boudoiron, Aragorn Marks, Edgar Ramos, Edgar Skomorovski et Irek Zielinski.
We can't wait to see how this all comes together in the game.
Drop your thoughts below...

Damn he looks good ………… I have resisted Monolith’s kickstarters so far, but how good this looks coupled with how difficult it is to get their Conan game means I am a sure thing for this one
Slipping into French at the end there, Ben?
😉
When you speak as many languages as Bens copy and paste its easy to flick between two of them 😀
Nice spot
Wow. I didn’t even read all that. ^^
Maybe, though, it ain’t French but Latin.
Gaius Benedictus Shavus…
LOL
Killing.
Caius Benedictus Shavus: De Bello Gallico Viri Vespertilionis ^^
the render looks good. it’s going to be interesting having knights sculpts to directly compare them against. it will give a real clear view of how far board game pieces have come over recent years. really looking forward to seeing this one play out.
If the cast figure turns out anything near this render I imagine the Spanish won’t be happy.
However there’s still the matter of material…
I imagine knight models isn’t happy anyway, not because the models could be (I really doubt it) better than theirs, but because in fact the game System is somewhat too similar…
It may seem strange, but Conan, in fact, was a slight alteration of knight models “counter System” changed to “gems System”. You place some counters (gems in monolith game) in a card with some stats and this allows you to do some actions in next stage of the game turn… it is coincidentally similar, but well, one was Conan, the other was Batman… well, I mean, ups…
It’s unlikely KM would be bothered about a game having similar mechanics. Barring the very rare exceptions such as Magic: The Gathering, tabletop game companies don’t bother trying to patent their game mechanics, and there’s a lot of borrowing that goes on. BMG itself is hardly a paragon of originality. In Magic’s case, the combination of it being a genuinely new mechanic coupled with its immediate financial success meant it was worthwhile WotC pursuing a patent on it, everything else is fair game.
This is not accurate- they are very different systems. The only thing they share is the resource application. And even that is handled very differently, BMG uses a planning phase for the application of ‘tokens’ whereas Conan allows the spending of them quite freely. Every other element is different. I get the impression you have not played one or both of these games.
That is rather nice for a board game, may have to keep an eye on this
is this confirmed at 28-32 ?
I am WELL interested , as I love dc minis game , but the Bat Sculptures I’m arent 100% sold on .
That’s a Frank Miller style Batman, right?
Does anyone know the content, themes, characters of these comic books? Maybe it might give some speculative clues to what this game will focus on.
Find it great they chose a less conventional / generic style (besides that this one is a really cool one artistically, and with a nice critical subtone – in my interpretation anyway).
The game will use the Conan game engine. If you pull down the 2.0 rules for Conan you will have a good idea of how it will play. However, note that Batman will be a further revision of those rules.
Transferring the Conan concept to a Batman setting I see people playing several heroes speeding over the board to shut down control devices of a villain’s contraption while knocking about to some crooks or s.th. like that.
Could work I guess. Would have preferred a bit more of the Detective aspect of Batman though. Reminds me a bit of this late Arkham game where he’s moving around Gotham to take out several threats at different areas.
Simply look at knight models game… it is exactly what you have described. XDD
If you want a Miller Batman go and look for Knight Models one, it is, in my opinion, a masterpiece. That Batman shown here is simply the result of allowing Arnaud Boudoiron to do what he wants with a sculpt. See that straight lines? they are his “mark”. He thinks as an artist, and so doesn’t try to do a “normal” sculpt, he choses to use straight lines where shouldn’t be. He did the same with Bellerophon, a Mythic batles sculpt and some people even asked where the problema was… it is difficult to understand why he does so in… Read more »
Another game featuring Batman? Other DCU superheroes need to some love as well and they chance in spotlight instead of just mister overrated.
Yes… how about an Aquaman game? 😉
Damm right , have you read the first tranch of Aquaman comics there immense.
and with the film out soon, its a great idea.
well suggested!
They should have a Justice League Board Game with Miniatures. It should be a co-op.
A JLA game is coming in the future, it has coop and vs gameplay and may have minis in it.

Look good too me.
It will be interesting to see how these models compare to the Knight Models miniatures. Opens up a lot of interesting possibilities for both games for home gaming.
I’m looking at this as a cheaper way to play Batman mini game, as I just can’t stretch my budget far enough for knights minis. That and my painting debt needs to grow 😉
looks good.
Just bought the BMG rulebook, watching Gotham and playing Arkham City on PC. Guess I must have this 🙂
Yeah I’ve been watching the old Justice League Cartoon and am feeling festive about the BMG. I have other stuff to paint right now but can see myself doing a lot more BMG and getting this once my painting workload decreases.
If your at the UK Gaming Expo, you should see some more…
