Dire Wolf’s New Clank! Catacombs Ditches The Dungeon Board
June 29, 2022 by brennon
Clank! is an awesome deck-building dungeon crawler where you're looking to delve deep and get your hands on plenty of treasure and renown without waking the dragon that lies in the depths. It has been expanded many times over the years and a new stand-alone game from Dire Wolf was announced this week, Clank! Catacombs.
Clank! Catacombs // Dire Wolf
Clank! Catacombs moves away from the board-based affairs of previous expansions and instead introduces a new tile-laying element to gameplay. You will still build your deck using the new cards from Catacombs or previous releases but rather than there being a set board, players will build the catacomb as they go, laying down tiles and creating twisting and turning routes that you'll have to navigate.

This means that you can't run the same (or similar) strategies each time you sit down to play. The dungeon will always be twisting and turning and presenting new challenges to you along the way. The core gameplay loop is the same though with you looking for treasure and renown whilst also avoiding the clutches of the dreaded dragon, Umbrok Vessna.
I've really enjoyed Clank! in the past and I could see this being a big hit for those that have maybe played the original to death. It offers up a new spin on things and I like that you'll get very different dungeons each time you play. It should keep things feeling fun!
Are you a Clank! fan that wants to check this out?
