Design A Digital Dungeon In A New Overboss Adaptation
September 6, 2022 by fcostin
The Boss Monster spin-off title, Overboss from Brotherwise Games will be heading to the realm of the digital. Bringing players a retro feel experience, they will be translating components to pixels as you are recruiting a dungeon of monster professionals to deter chirpy adventurers who are selfishly entering your abode.
Overboss Digital // Goblinz Studios
Following the themes of the physical board game and reference to the Boss Monster franchise, Overboss will be making a digital debut soon with the Steam page live and almost ready to go after the press of a button over from games developer, Goblinz Studios.
Game Components // Overboss
The board game's release in 2021 saw players muddled in an 8-bit style of dungeon design. Placing down terrain tiles and monster tokens to create a map that is fit for a powerful and brutal dungeon dive. Each terrain tile will fit match with a pixelated location which will have a point value. Across swamps, graveyards, forests and more; players would compete to be the Overboss - collecting sets and optimising tile placement, whilst ensuring there are enough minions to guard and patrol the area.
Gameplay Preview // Overboss Digital
The video game adaptation will put players in the spot of manager, there's a reason why you are the Overboss! Make sure that the world is shaped to your own perspective, designed to tick all of the boxes of any wandering monster looking to get a peaceful night's sleep.
Objectives // Overboss Digital
Like the board game, the terrain that is placed is scored through set collection and placement, making you more powerful the more you adhere to the patterns. Adding minibosses and monsters to the tiles to ensure a happy dungeon adventure (if the monsters work beneath you of course!) will also add multipliers to coveted loot with portals as you get your hands on more loot. The digital title can be played solo against the AI, with a chance to involve some friends in competitive online play.
Overboss Digital is gearing up for a release, with all ready to go live externally but no date set in stone just yet. If you enjoyed micromanaging the monsters and minions and designing the most devastating dungeons - be sure to keep an eye out for the release of Overboss on PC.
