Delve Into The Undercity With New Iron Kingdoms Adventure Board Game!
May 7, 2015 by brennon
Privateer Press might have hit the nail on the head once again with the news about their fantastic looking The Undercity Adventure Board Game coming soon! Find out all the details on this below...
Delve Beneath The Surface...
In The Undercity players take on the role of heroes and adventurers as part of the mercenary outfit known as the Black River Irregulars. You will be hunting through the damp and dank underground of Corvis battling all manner of monsters and weird creations in the hopes of stopping whatever foul plot awaits the world above.
The game is played out like a campaign with your heroes hopefully gaining in experience and finding new weapons to use against the dark forces controlled by the Cephalyx. You will be working as a complete team against the game itself so it's a proper full on co-operative experience.
Components
A game like this obviously has to come with a lot of different components and this is just a quick look at what's on offer. First off I think we all want to see what the models are going to be right?
As you can see the models look fantastic and each of them is going to be a one part model ready to use out of the box. The heroes look superb (including the Gobber running with a Light Warjack!) and the amount of enemies that are popping up looks intense. I can't wait to face off against those purple boss creatures.
Your heroes will be levelling up and buying new cards and abilities to use during the brutal combat we've come to know and love from Privateer Press.
As you can see above the range of different components is vast. Privateer Press regularly don't do anything by halves so I'm reckoning that the quality of the components is going to be top notch.
I particularly like the look of the game tiles that while seemingly featureless appear to have a level of depth to them which is interesting. It would be interesting to see them potentially bring out some pieces of 3D terrain alongside the actual options presented in 2D here but that could also be a nice hobby project!
Will you go delving into The Undercity?

I’m already sold on this – and even if the plastics need a little cleaning up, I think it’s going to be worth buying this game just to have the minis for use with the IKRPG.
..heh it’s nice to see they have dusted off the Draegyn model.
Exactly
one question: will the minis will be made of the same soft/bendy plastic they are using on Level 7 Omega Protocol and Unleashed?
If so. No for me.
I don’t get it, maybe someone has the answer here, but PP is doing some of the best minis in the Wargame industry and all their board games is made of very soft and poor quality minis?
My guess is that this won’t be the same material that the Warmachine minis are made of, though it may not necessarily be the same material as the Level 7 minis. Boardgame minis need to be pre-assembled. Soda Pop were forced to switch by distributors who refused to carry SDE if they didn’t. Mantic have had similar issues. This means they can’t be manufactured in the same way as wargame minis which the consumer is left to assemble. The plastic used for the SDE minis got a lot softer once they were switched to pre-assembled, though the minis themselves are… Read more »
I am with you, the sculpt of the mini is really nice. but the material used, …shame they cant use the same as Warmachine, or Horde.
uuhm no. The restic they use is a terrible materiel. And even if they ended up making them in restic, they would require assembly before playing. And that turns away alot of board game players.
I can see lots of terrible game nights with experience hogs populating this scene.
Beyond this all dungeon crawlers are welcome.
You dont hog experience. The players pool the experience they achive, and distribute evenlt amongst all the players. So no hogging.
Looks like solo play could be feasible, playing all four characters. A definite plus for me!
Certainly an interesting option! I think that could be a big plus for the game.

Since i love Cephalyx this is a 100% must buy for me because i’ll be able to make a 25 pts army with the content of that box and the Raging Heroes TGG1 Mechanical Priest proxied as Exulon Thesus , maybe i will require a few solos but at least the bulk of the army is there and it comes with an amazing game!
ok looking at this box I got to get me some stat cards from the PP site to dual purpose these minis
Sold on this one, will be a definite buy. If the minis can be cleaned up and made dual purpose all to the good.
I’ve already decided this will be my dungeon Crawler of choice, plus mor IK minis for RP
I can’t wait to pick this up. The experience “leveling up” mechanic has me sold. That and my kids want to get involved. Win win for me.
Definitely interested, but approaching with cautionary eye. I’ll let the early adopters feel whatever pain there is before picking up. Poor quality mini’s are my main concern (like several others here).
Looks good. I like the range of minis included and the game sounds fun. Definitely on the watch list.
Has a ring of heroquest to it. Look forward to seeing it.
I am always a little disappointed when I get repetition models in a box set these days. I understand you get a lot of mini’s in this game, 40 from the interviews, but really you are getting 16 different ones. I can understand in times gone by when each was a separately sculpted piece meaning high costs but with modern techniques available and the ability to manipulate the models post 3D design it would have gone a long way to just repose the repetitions. I understand it would impact on profit margins to a degree but I think it would… Read more »
This will be a must have for me as well. I wasn’t happy with the material of the unleashed minis as well. However once I primed them they stiffen up and painted very nicely. I did take the precaution and wash with soapy water before priming. Not everyone works with minis so understand PP reasons. Those of us that work with minis should be happy to see the diversity and understand that sometimes we have to compromise. Besides consider the opportunities of this new set to recruit new players into both IKRP and WM/Hordes.
Insta-kill on my wallet, no chance for a saving roll. Love Dungeon Crawls, love that they said it’s the first of a new series. I’m expecting they’ll have them at GenCon – fingers crossed I can pick one up…
I’m quite excited about this. It looks like a nice way into the Iron Kingdoms world for me (all those guns and robots – not normally my thing but there are other bits about the world that I like). More importantly, it might also be a way into miniatures gaming for my girlfriend.
