April 1, 2022 by fcostin
The campaign is up and already funded - with 20 days left on the clock Dead by Daylight: The Board Game is now on Kickstarter. Level 99 Games are placing 3-5 players in an intense fight for their lives, translating from video game over to the tabletop.
Dead by Daylight: The Board Game Launch Trailer // Level 99 Games
When this title was first announced, I was really excited by the translation. As me being too much of a wimp to play the video game successfully, I spent most of my time hiding in cupboards being incredibly unhelpful. But being an overlooker from a different perspective - from the tabletop - it might just peel back the fear for me to fully immerse myself in the title.
Dead by Daylight: The Board Game follows the same premise as the video game: taking the role of a killer or a survivor, players must escape the odds of death by being one step ahead of the murderer fighting blood, sweat and tears to achieve freedom. However, the Killer does not make it easy! Hoping to flex their abilities to get the upper hand - to hunt down, wound and successfully sacrifice (by giant hooking!) the players looking to escape.
Board and Gameplay Preview // Dead by Daylight: The Board Game
Players are going to have to balance out the odds somehow. Although it is terrifying to attempt to outrun the likes of Jason, each player will have a set of abilities that will help them fare against the Killer on the loose. These will be translated on player boards with difficulty ratings per character, playstyle, turn reference, Blood Point tracker and perks. The Killer's board will look slightly different, having the same reference as the escapees however including a special power that is locked solely to enforce and inflict sorrow on the soon-to-be-dead.
Players playing as escapees will utilise cards to move and explore the grounds in search of generators and hopefully rake in some tools for survival too. Whilst doing this, they will have to anticipate the moves of the killer, putting just as much thought into the strategy of their opponent. Hoping to power up the generators and get out alive. The Killer on the other hand will be on the hunt for one mission, and one mission only - to kill. They'll be vaulting their way across the map to drag and hook up the "survivors", hoping for 8 sacrifices by hooking to win the game.
Survivors // Dead by Daylight: The Board Game
Killers // Dead by Daylight: The Board Game
Survivors in the core box include Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake, Nea, Ace and Feng Ming. And Killers include The Trapper, The Wraith, The Hillbilly, The Nurse, The Hag and The Doctor. All with different powers and abilities to harness during tense gameplay.
There are two different pledges you could dip into if you are interested in the title. You can swag yourself a Standard Edition which will be the same edition heading to retail this year. Containing 7 Survivor Minis & Boards, 6 Killer Minis & Boards, 4 Wound Rings, Double-sided Map Board, 89 cards, and all Tokens for £38. And a Collector's Edition for £76 - adding more to the base game 17 Survivors, 16 Killers, 2 Double-Sided Map Boards (4 maps total), 8 Generator Minis + Progress Pegs, 5 Hook Minis, 5 Dice, 133 Cards. For more information and a breakdown of each pledge - Level 99 has included visuals for you to see exactly what comes in the box. The Collector's edition will not be going to retail - so if you want the full scope of survivors, killers and extras it will be extremely limited after the campaign.
