Daughters Of Khaine Invade Age Of Sigmar + Chosen Axes Adventure In Shadespire
January 26, 2018 by brennon
As well as the news we saw earlier from the Las Vegas Open for Warhammer 40,000+775423, we also have some news for what's coming in Age Of Sigmar too. Here is what Games Workshop showed off...
The Daughters Of Khaine are getting themselves a new Battletome as well as a range of updated models. If you liked the idea of more Dark Elves/Aelves arriving in Age Of Sigmar then you won't have to wait long.
Included in the trailer above you will also see some of the new models including some snake-like women and the mighty Mortahi herself who has undergone quite the transformation since we last saw her in the World-That-Was.
Hopefully, we see the Daughters Of Khaine embroiled in the goings on of Malign Portents as more nefarious foes rise to face off against the forces of Order. As mentioned in the last piece we did on this reveal; I'm very interested to see how Sigmar and his kin deal with this returning friend-come-foe.
Chosen Axes In Shadespire
As well as the addition of new models for Age Of Sigmar, we also saw the reveal of the Chosen Axes for Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire. The Fyreslayers are looking for glory and Urgold amongst the ruins.
As you might imagine, the Chosen Axes are deadly in close combat and then even get better once they have claimed an objective or two. When you're obsessed with riches it does certain buoy up your combat effectiveness.
This might get me back into picking up the different warbands for Shadespire. So far I'd only painted up the first two from the main box but it would be neat to try out more with friends.
Age Of Sigmar Campaign
We were also told about an upcoming global campaign for Age Of Sigmar, set amongst the events of Malign Portents. Dread Solstice approaches...
Here's what you can expect from the campaign...
"The Dread Solstice Campaign is a branching narrative, where the games you play and models you paint can be used to decide where the story goes next. Imagine a huge, collaborative ‘choose your own adventure’ story and you’ll have the basic idea of how it works."
I really like the idea of everyone chipping in to form the narrative for this campaign. It should make for good reading as events unfold and maybe you'll even forge some interesting stories for your own characters along the way.
What do you think of the news?
"Included in the trailer above you will also see some of the new models including some snake-like women and the mighty Mortahi herself..."

Rad? Very rad.
But GW you big teases; I know there’s a Skaven Spire warband and that’s the thing I want to see the most. It’s like Total war where they revealed Skaven way after the other races. We all know Skaven are the best.
The skaven warband was previewed in november, heres the trailer :

I honestly don’t know how I missed that
@mage was right – Morathi is leading an outright evil order faction with a strong serpentine theme, all about the blood, carnage and extreme religious fanaticism with regard to the good old Aelven God of Murder, Khaine.
Well Morathi did lead With Elves that were dedicated to Elven God of Murder Khaine back in WHF as well so this doesn’t surprise me at all.
@mecha82 Sure, no surprise here (and that’s a good and refreshing thing here – even though that seems contradictory ^^).
I believe the point of @vetruviangeek and @mage is, that this group seems indeed affliliated with the Order main faction. (Which might feel very unorganic considering their nasty ways. Also, see my post below for that.)
@darnast You are correct. On another thread @mage and I were wondering if Morathi would be Order aligned despite her evil ways, and we came to the conclusion that the alignment system in AoS is a bit like D&D – it is Order versus Chaos more than good versus evil, so you can have evil Order aligned factions. All you need to be on Team Order is an intense hatred of Chaos; you ethical compass beyond that is of less importance. We have after all already seen Sigmar court alliance with Nagash when it suited him, and Nagash is hardly… Read more »
Campy video, but looks like there might be a few good models in that lot.
Okay… so the visual style of the ‘trailer/teaser’ served only as a flavour canvas after all, and they didn’t force ancient Greek influenced looks upon these elves. I’m fine with that. And they do go well with the old DE visual design. Happy here. Curious how they will approach males in this faction. Will there be resentment or will they just kind of happen to be primarily gals? After all DE were *the* faction with a lot of action around the sexes, both dividing and connecting them: mixed troops, brides to Khaine, anti male sorcerer progromes… and they do field… Read more »
I don’t think ‘dark elves’ are a thing anymore, these are the daughters of Khain faction, but it did have the dark riders in it so no not all female.
Well, not everyone followed GW into the AoS world. Or not completely. Or adheres to every part of the official new WH creed – be it new termini, background story or miniatures design.
E.g. AoS28 projects just to name one direction. So, yes, even if you pick and choose according to your own liking and visions from among what is offered compatibility with ‘traditional’ styles and story themes is a big thing – depending on perspective. As always. 😉
“Curious how they will approach males in this faction”
With carefully chosen pronouns i bet 😉
It’s just me or does the Dwarf and Skaven bands of Shadespire look rather, uninspired, compared with the rest?
The undead one was absolute amazing by contrast…
I think the undead stood out as they were not your typical GW undead, as they pretty much invented slayers and skaven there are only GW styled ones so hard to make something different. However, I do think the whole fireslayer range is uninspired
Liking the Gorgon type bits, and the new harpies? Seems a good looking faction. Bar the ‘sons of the harpy’ masks (Yeah I know they had them in the last book – looked naff then as well) and can can dancers still being can can dancers.
I will give AoS this much it does have some good looking factions.
Oh look elves …………………………………… but how about those Fyreslayers , as a newly minted Shadespire fanatic (such a fun game) I will be getting these, but I may be getting a few extra boxes because thes look a lot better than some of the original fyreslayer models. Very nice.
You really do like that Fireslayer “band”? I’d be rather disappointed. Them looking quite generic and similar, almost clone like. …had I been waiting for them. Which I haven’t since I’m disappointed with that re-do of the good old Slayers already. (Although I believe there’s good potential for diverse conversions.) Still, I wonder what they thought creating this group.
Yes I do. They have a much better definition on the armoured helmets than the originals, in some of the plastic fyreslayers kits the poses were very samey and one body inparticular didn’t much chage where the arm ran into torso and gave the impression that there was very little shoulder.
Okay you don’t like them and I suspectit is as you say, you didn’t like the re-do of the originals, that’s fine , each to their own, but yes I really do like them.(and will be purchasing multiple boxes). Cheers
I still say they should have gone with that elemtal fire aspect on the dwarves we saw in early art, these are well a bit dull.
@beardragon14 Hope it’s clear that I don’t criticise you or your opinion but the miniatures design. I just put it as an answer to you since I find exchange of thoughts more productive than stating my view to the void. 😉 And, indeed, it helped. Well, you actually, ’cause I didn’t even think about the posing and sculpting properties (never seen the miniatures in real life). So, we’re looking at different things here. Now, my criticism is aimed towards the relatively little diversity in the miniatures’ visual concepts. (Although I do like the celtic influenced helmets / crest supports.) I… Read more »
Oh no mate , I was fine with what you said, no percieved criticism here 😀
As an unabashed fan of everything Elf, I’m SO excited!
Now to quickly clear my current projects off my desk in preparation
Ah mate I am happy for you then … ….. it been a while betwwen drinks (I may doubt your sanity but I am happy for 😉 😛 😀 )
Ha, ha… classic beardragon!
Cheers! 😀
😉
im glad another faction is getting some love.
but me wants more undead! and skaven!
Sorry custodes, the witches are getting my money instead
These will be great for 9th age and kings of war
I really don’t get the whole Dark Elves working for Order, ESPECIALLY Witch Elves. Not only do they use a giant goblet full of blood as their altar, but Morathi led a cult of Slannesh. They’re practically Chaos worshippers. They at least fit better in either Death or Destruction.
Of course, I ALSO don’t get why GW can’t just call them “Elves.” We LIKE “Elves” and “Dwarves”, “Orcs” and “Goblins.” Not Ælflings, Duriding-dongs, Orky-pies or whatever else they’ll decide to call your races in five years.
Order is not good. Order is order. And both Darklings and DoK are factions of order…just evil order. They don’t fit death because they have no undead, and do not serve Nagash and they don’t fit Destruction, because Destruction is Gorkamorka fans only.
And they changed their names to copyright them better of course. So people making knockoff (and they are knock-off, they alway, always copy GW’s units and design aesthetics) 3rd party models can’t name them the same.
@poks You are correct about Order not being good. Just look at source were GW took Chaos for they games Michael Moorcock’s Eternal Champion books and how Order and Chaos are considered in those and why either one dominating is considered bad thing in those. But I disagree when it comes to name changes since I find most of those if not all overly silly and it’s reason why I won’t ever use those new names. I am not against others using those new names if they want but I won’t but I won’t let anyone tell me to use… Read more »
I like the Fyreslayers
There is a lot of back and forth here about Order, and it is less a faction and more an alignment in D&D.
To those who argue against Witch Elves, etc. being Order, well, quite frankly your all late to the party. These Dark Elf minis have all been order since the Grand Alliance thing started, years ago. Its a defunct argument anyway if you don’t even play the game, as in there is no point. Especially if you aren’t into the new setting either.
Like a lot of people I’ve been waiting to see some Aelves for an age and while these are good the faction just leaves me cold.
I think Witch Elves worked well before because of the contrast against the rest of the Dark Elves, the grounding they provided. I guess it just seems a bit much. I will have to see when they are released and we get some more group shots.
I’m probably more interested in the not-High Elves anyway.
Order may not necessarily mean good, but anybody in Age of Sigmar that could remotely be a good guy is in Order, that kind of makes it a little silly to say they’re not the ‘good guys’. And it’s also pretty silly to say you’re not basically serving Khorne when you’re dancing around a giant cauldron filled with blood… As for the knockoffs, I have NEVER seen a GW knockoff that didn’t cost more than going to GW. EVER. Every “competitor” I’ve seen (and I’ve looked) that produced anything remotely similar to anything in WH or 40K was just as… Read more »
You should see Avatars of War and Raging Heroes versions of Witch Elves looking models as those are great looking alternatives for GW ones.
