Darrington Press Release Their First Board Game, Uk’otoa!
May 28, 2021 by brennon
Darrington Press, the gaming wing of the Critical Role kingdom, has now released its first board game into the world. Uk'otoa, based on Fjord's terrifying deep-sea dwelling patron, is now available for you to snap up from the Critical Role store in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.

Uk'otoa is a three to five player game that takes about fourty-five minutes to play. Hexes are placed down which represent the wreckage of a destroyed ship that is slowly being devoured by the terrifying Uk'otoa.
You will play as two factions who are jostling for position as they look to survive the terror of the deep. With the game being semi-cooperative, you'll be working together to survive although sometimes it pays to throw people under the bus so you can escape a giant monster!

The game looks great which is fantastic to see. I like that this first outing from Darrington Press has been given lashings of love. The game art is by Hannah Friederichs and I certainly tip my hat for what we're able to drink in here. I am intrigued to see how the gameplay shakes out from Jeb Havens too though.
Coming in at just under thirty pounds, I could see this being a pretty nifty pick-up. I am a big fan of Critical Role so I will probably end up adding this to my collection sooner rather than later!
Are you tempted to dive into Uk'otoa?

Honestly, the artwork looks good but the game looks plain and boring. Na, pass.
It’s the Homer tribe.
I bet all the red one’s die first?
Apart from picking up the game to get that cool sea serpent mini and the “screaming guy” meeples, this seems kind of claustrophobic and not much fun to play.
I’ve watched a “how to play” and it looks kinda fun.
Having two “allies” who are in turn each others enemy could make for some fun banter.
Problem for me is getting 4 or more players together, though.
Also, I think I should check out critical roll
