Dark Souls Kickstarter Beats £2 Million And Keeps On Going
May 7, 2016 by brennon
Steamforged Games are having exceptional success with their Kickstarter for Dark Souls. It has beaten the £2 Million mark and it is showing no signs of slowing down too much.
To give you an idea here is what you get in the core game...
Which is a lot in of itself. You get a pretty good core game there which seems to be packed with the right amount of challenge. However for being a Backer you also get all of this...
Now that is frankly pretty insane. We know that Kickstarter is a good place to get a deal on a game and fund its future - if the company can deliver. Steamforged have proven themselves adept with the likes of Guild Ball so hopefully we'll be seeing a nicely polished product out of this.
Watch out for an interview with them soon!

I still don’t get why this is going through the roof – the only gameplay video they did show was giving me the impression of a very dull and boring game. Surely there must be many Dark Souls fans out there, but without the big name I would not have even looked at the game as it has nothing interesting for me…
Well I think you have answered your own question.. it shows how important the lisence is!
I wonder what percentage of the backers are retailers, because I’m sure that’s got to be a significant factor.
there are as of this moment 446 retail pledges of the olmost 21k
generally speaking dark Souls fans (and I am one of them) are very, very passionate about the game, to the extent that for me it is pretty much the only game series i have played for about 3 years now – aldo with the latest installment in the series coming out pretty much bang on the same time as this kickstarter there is a lot of DS hype at the minute
Good on the steamforged guys, finances mean I cannot back but will grab at retail, the mechanics look interesting and challenging and the minis I have every faith will be good quality.
You can just back at £1 and increase to a full pledge in the pledge manager if your finances will allow by that time.
No looking to improve by the end of the years so will wait for retail, probably … its an idea though
they have even beaten the £2 Million mark.
It got edited ignore this
They’ve actually passed £2 million which is more than $3 million… They did $2 million a while back!
Sadly, and as I can attest from two recent trips to the US, that is no longer the case. £2 million is a bit short of $2.9 million now.
Not being a computer gamer I’d never heard of Dark Souls until the Salute coverage, but I’ve backed this game. The miniatures look cool enough, the setting dark and interesting enough and the deal good enough that I’m willing to take a chance backing it. And of course Steam Forged have a good reputation. (I’ve not played Guild Ball, but everyone seems to find it great and the miniatures are amazing.) I haven’t seen anything about the game play that sounds particularly interesting to me, but as I say, I’m not relying on that to make me decide it’s worth… Read more »
@angelicdespot the comparisons are mainly that thematically and a little aesthetically Kingdom death took inspiration from dark souls.
Yes, I can see it! Not that I recognised the influence when I was looking at KD:M, but I like the creepy, fairy tale, fantastic look and I guess that’s why I like the miniatures for this game too, although they have a more ‘Alice in Wonderland’ quality I think.
They have promised gameplay videos and concepts / renders of more miniatures for Monday … guess I’ll decide then if I want to stay in or not.
@angelicdespot try and play some dark souls 1 if you can:

It definitely is running more on hype and IP recognition, but Steamforged Games definitely know how to make a good game and nice miniatures after their experiences with Guildball. Personally I’m rather interested in it from the hobby perspective and as a fan of the videogame series. So much like with Kingdom Death it’s all about the models for me and even better if like that game the actual content of the rules turns out to be good to fantastic. That said, golden week has just passed in Japan (roughly a week long period of all sorts of celebration, religious… Read more »
I want a Gwyn model.
