Rio Grande Games are working on a new game from Tom Lehmann, the creator of the legendary Race For The Galaxy. Dice Realms is a brand new "dice building" game where you seek to create the most prosperous world.

Each player will rule over two small realms which are represented by two customisable dice. Each die has removable faces which you can collect from a vast repository, allowing you to roll different options and work towards victory. Die faces allow for improvements in farming, mining, defences, overarching upgrades and more.

Each round the players roll their dice and collect grain, victory points and coins. They then have to decide how to use their resources to upgrade their die faces and improve the realms. The twist is that each round, a Fate Die is rolled and that can cause all manner of problems that you'll have to work around.

Dice Realms Preview // Gen Con 2019

The game is meant to be easy to learn and the simultaneous turns mean that it should play at a clap too. I like how customisable the game appears to be as well which should hopefully mean there are many ways to achieve victory. In addition to that, the fact that you're working with dice means that you'll have to work in ways of mitigating bad luck!

This one ain't cheap, especially when it comes to the component side of things. BUT, if the game is able to stand up thanks to its mechanics it might be one to check out. Maybe give it a shot at a board game cafe first before you drop the cash!

Watch out for the release of this game fairly soon!
