Conan The Warlord Busts $1 Million Mark On Kickstarter [Update!]
January 22, 2015 by brennon
Monolith are closing in on the $1 million mark on Kickstarter and the update here brings with it an awesome Conan the Warlord miniature by Jacques-Alexandre Gillois and Kerim Shah draws his swords too!
Update: For the birthday of Robert E. Howard the Monolith team have come up with something special to mark the next milestone after the million dollar point. Welcome Balthus & Slasher!
The Howard tribute (to which this entire Kickstarter has pretty much been) is to bring these two into the world. Balthus & Slasher are special because they represent Howard and his own real life pet in the world of Conan! Above you can see some of the artwork for Balthus but here's a closer look...
Sadly there's no sculpt of Slasher just yet but above you can see what Balthus looks like from the front and back thanks to more render work by Basiliskus 3D. Blathus is a die hard ranged combatant in the Conan game and while you might think that leaves him vulnerable to attack in combat that's where Slasher comes in. Like a proper ranger/scout his faithful hound will keep his enemies at bay while Balthus fills them full of arrows.
You can read more about Balthus & Slasher on the Kickstarter page HERE.
We'll have a look at Kerim Shah to begin with who has been 3D sculpted by Basiliskus 3D below. He's more of an ally of convenience with Conan than anything and while a demon at ranged combat he isn't adverse to swinging his swords either. To give you an idea of how he plays, think Legolas but a lot more surly looking according to Monolith!
He's got a very cool sculpt and he sort of reminds me of the Caldeum Iron Wolf soldiers in Diablo III in his design. Of course both of these have an Arabic feeling to them and Kerim is distinctly older but it's cool to see that link. A big fan of the curved swords and the short bow for use in tight situations.
As promised however here's the amazing looking Conan sculpted by Jacques-Alexandre Gillois who is looking like possibly THE best miniature for the game. Conan as a Warlord is one of the best fighters out there (just look at the axe) and can spend up to six gems to smash through his foes. Add to that his ability to interact and shoot without being hampered by enemies makes him a deadly force.
Will this sway you?

Those look really nice.
JAG is probably the best sculptor in the business… Or in the top five at least.
I think he’s top five. By which I mean by top five is –
1) JAG
2) JAG
3) JAG
4) JAG
5) JAG
🙂
*my top five is –
That’s a pretty good top five list, but it seems to be missing Yannick Hennebo. It’s the pair of them that make the Studio McVey minis that are so very nice.
Now, I’m wondering who the next three would be (if we disqualify JAG from winning multiple spots in the top five).
Because many companies still don’t credit sculptors it makes doing a top 5 list difficult. JAG is the undoubted best in my mind. MIKH would probably be high on my list too.
Call me uneducated, who is JAG?
Jacques-Alexandre Gillois.
Thank you.
pledge you fellow monkeys ‘cos I want my precioussss … 😀
Crom wills it (again)
Something as awesome as this just gets to its first million, yet exploding cats is well on its way to 3 million… Worlds mad lol.
And yes I know a card game is cheap and more accessible, but still…
Time for an exploding cat/Conan crossover then? Pool their success! 😉
EXPLODEY-CONAN!
Ok, I think I’d be interested in Explodey CONAN!
Curse my empty bank balance!!!
I’m sooo tempted by this just can’t afford it right now 🙁
I can’t wait to get my copy of Conan it looks amazing espically with all these stretch goals so glad I follow bow advise.
First kickstarter boardgame backed : ) looking forward to getting all these lovely minis in the post!
Back this as well, Loved the interview that BOW had with the creator
Interesting that there were 2 Conan games in Kickstarter that both successfully funded with ease. Shows how much love there is for fantasy out there. Go King Conan!
Game looks amazing first time for me backing a kickstarted never would of happened without BoWs promotion. Been getting back into gaming over the last 12 months my excitement and appetite for gaming comes in a large part to being exposed to new games here. Really the channel should come with a health warning for your wallet! Keep up the good work!!
Broke my kick starter virginity with this and I am on cloud nine. It is just nerdvana to any Conan geek like myself. The amount of stuff that will be winging it’s way to pledgers in October is simply staggering. As much as it will deepen my painting backlog, this will bring myself and my friends at my club hours of fun, I am sure that there will be much arguing over who is going to be the Overlord, let alone who gets to play Conan. Congratulations to Monolith and everyone else involved, this is a superb tribute to REH… Read more »
Gotta say this is looking absolutely epic. The game seems very well thought out. And the minis are some of the best I have ever seen in years as a gamer. I was toying with the idea of signing up to the kickstarter but held off to see how well it would do. When I listened to Jamie (what a great guy – please have him back on soon!) on the weekender, I was sold and signed up for the King Pledge (will probably throw in a bit extra closer to the time to get some more cool stuff). Now… Read more »
Is it only me? … I find it almost a waste of talent to produce miniatures where the master sculpts show such detail ONLY in PVC plastic.
If they turn out like the stuff in Journey Wrath of Demons plastic which Jamie was suggesting I’ll be happy when all my gear arrives.

My very same point of view….
Even if you have the Journey quality (and there exist not many detail pictures of these plastic minis) there will be sooo much details gone missing, when you “translate” these great master in PVC.
For a boardgame these minis might still look great because of the sculptor-pre-work, but what you really get is not that easy predictable….
Does anyone else remember Robin Williams taking the p155 out of Arnold – he called him Conan the Retailer 🙂
