Community Spotlight: Iron Warriors, Konflikt ’47 Bots & HeroQuest Renewed
June 8, 2022 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
The Horus Heresy Iron Warriors by elessar2590
We're starting things off for Community Spotlight this week looking at The Horus Heresy. One of our longtime members of the community, elessar2590, has been working away on their Iron Warriors army!
Perturabo was painted up a little while ago but he looks absolutely fantastic. Whilst there is a lot of metallic when it comes to the Iron Warriors, there is still a lot to sink your teeth into when it comes to the miniature. I love that the hazard lines have still popped on the model and I think the addition of the bright green helps the contrast between the base and the model.
The second of the images we're going to be looking at is for the Warsmith. Again, a whole host of awesome detail to be picked out on this miniature.
Once again, I love the bonus of the hazard stripes which look really neat. You also have lots of little details picked out around the face, especially when it comes to the bionics. The little points of red on the miniature draw the eye to the right places.
Lastly, at least for now, we also have some of the rank and file miniatures. A whole bunch of Terminators have joined the Legion alongside the Space Marines from boxed sets past.
I love the glittering blue of those lightning claws and the use of that bold yellow on the Boltguns. I also have to tip my hat to that basing style. I have never thought about doing that kind of toxic basing style but I might look at using it for some models in the future.
I can't wait to see what else comes out of this project. There are plenty of tanks already in the mix which are well worth taking a peek at if you want to use the Iron Warriors as the focus of your own Horus Heresy journey.
British 8th Army Konflikt '47 by SpacePiracy
Next up, we turn from Iron Warriors in a mostly figurative sense to the more literal meaning of the name. Here we have the British 8th Army but done up for the Weird World War wargame, Konflikt '47. We start with a rather kick-ass walker!
I absolutely love the colour scheme here. You often see the Konflikt '47 range done up to match the fighting in Europe but I think stepping beyond that and venturing into the desert war is the right way to go. It certainly means that you can have some fun with the scheme. I particularly liked the battle damage that has been used to the right degree.
Leading on from the walker, we also have this awesome set of Automated Infantry which take things deep into this Weird World War wargame. I think they look suitably "British" for some reason, awkward and slightly prim.
Again, whilst the scheme might seem simple, it's very effective. You immediately get a sense of where they are and the kind of fighting they have taken part in. The little additions of the red blinking lights really set off the miniatures.
Finally, at least for my little preview, we have a look at some terrain that has also been built by SpacePiracy.
Lovely stuff! I like the idea that the British would start to get more dug in as the fighting continued after World War II. Tanks were retrofitted and tweaked to defend cities and towns as well as important paths through the desert. The finished article looks awesome and I like that it is very dirty!
HeroQuest by seldon9
Last but not least, we turn our attention to work on the new HeroQuest boxed set. seldon9 has worked their way through the entire core set for HeroQuest and made the heroes and monsters look brilliant!
It's really nice to see these classic characters reimagined and then painted up in such a neat way. I liked all of the hero miniatures but I loved the detail that got added to the cloak and tunic of the Wizard. The shifting colours on the cloak and the spots of gold really sell the miniature.
The villains are equally as awesome as you have fantastic miniatures like the Evil Lich popping as you can see here. I love the blue flesh and how that cool colour contrasts against the warmer colours of the robes.
This is by no means the totality of this project as everything has been painted up. I liked all of the monsters but I thought the Abominations were particularly awesome. I think it might be the bright blue.
It is going to be awesome seeing all of these taking to the tabletop to do battle with the heroes of HeroQuest. The basics of the rules might not have had an update but at least we know that the miniatures were worth picking up from the game! I hope that seldon9 has plenty of fun with this new version of HeroQuest!
