Combine Elements To Build Compounds For Points In Ion 2E
August 1, 2022 by fcostin
Genius Games are resurrecting a successful title into a new edition. Home to biology and chemistry board games, the publisher is set to bring Ion: A Compound Building Game a fresh new look and update. Creating compounds by collecting cards, there's been some tweaks bringing a second edition this year.
Ion A Compound Building Game // Genius Games
Ion requires players to build a selection of compounds by card drafting. 2-4 players will be pulling together ion and noble gas cards and choosing whether they would like to bond them or keep them for later use. Bonding would result in the creation of neutral compounds and a number of points awarded to the player. More points are scored depending on the quantity and type of the compounds which are in the mix. With the hopes of collecting some sets of Noble Gases along the way.

Keeping a card for later use will benefit the strategy long term. Players may want to hold out for a particular combination for higher points or have their eyes on the prize for a particular set to collect. Alongside the mad chemistry mixing, there is also a chance to hit some Compound Goals. With compounds highlighted during gameplay for extra point intake.

Players will also have access to a set of Action Tiles, which may help them in-game gain a little bit of grounding, providing additional moves during the game. But these come at a penalty when all points are tallied at the end of the game - points will be subtracted from the overall score depending on Action Tiles used. Whoever has the most by the end of the game is crowned the winner.
The new edition is set to have some tweaked elements in gameplay, building up some extra room for strategy. And of course will be coming with a fresh new design to box, components and cards to bring a new lease of life into competitive compound creation!
Keep your eyes peeled on the shelves for Ion: A Compound Building Game's second edition. Ready to head to retail before the end of the year.
