CMON Hints At Upcoming Arcadia Project – Masmorra
February 2, 2016 by stvitusdancern
CMON (Cool Mini or Not) was a little sly in giving us a hint at their next project that will be coming to Kickstarter (they are non-stop Kickstarter machine!)
At the announcement on the XenoShyft: Dreadmire Kickstarter page declaring the campaign a success, there is a little blurb about their next project:
"Beneath the streets of the great city of Arcadia, far from the eyes of its citizens, lies the Masmorra, the magic dungeon created to train and test the brave heroes seeking to join the powerful guilds. But during the latest crisis to shake the city, the terrible wizard Malaphias took the dungeon by storm, turning it into his personal lair of doom.
In this dice-driven dungeon crawl board game, you must lead your hero down the levels of a dungeon chock full of dangers and surprises, in a race for fame and fortune against the other heroes."
Be on the lookout for more information later this month. Being one that loves dungeon crawlers, I probably will be jumping on this when it happens as CMON always does BIG Kickstarters! Oh how my bank account aches from Kickstarters, I wonder does anyone want to buy a kidney...
Will you be looking at picking this up?

From what I’ve heard, Arcadia is a good fast pace game. Even though it looks like SDE they play completely different.
Also I do notice that the models sculpts are much more different than at first glance. Compared to SDE that has a sleek japanese chibi look, Arcadia’s models have a european bobblehead or parade look. As in the big head that chibi has but with big noses and big grins that show loads of teeth. I like the difference be it subtle from the two games.
True- Arcadia Quest is very different from Super Dungeon Explore. I thought it was a real shame that CMON’s first pitch for Arcadia Quest intentionally made it sound like it was SDE Co-op. It is absolutely is nothing like that. They even chose a name that sounds like “Arcade Quest” even though they have zero references to videogames. Which is a shame. The game can stand just fine as its own thing, but the way that CMON made it sound like they were ripping off SDE has created a divide between SPM and CMON fans. Can’t all of us fans… Read more »
Oh, and on the art style:
The style that Arcadia Quest uses can be accurately called “Caricature” (its origin is Italian).
Oh yes that what it’s called, caricature. I do like that look.
I would agree that Arcadia Quest took unnecessary steps mimic SDE. It’s like CMON seeks to punish any partner company that dares to go solo. In this case, making a game that sounds, looks and appears to be related.
The thing is AQ can and should be able to stand on it’s own two feet without trying to undermine its competitors. In the end I think it didn’t attract SDE fans as they thought but rather earned ther scorn. Why else is there a divide between the two games?
I do love me some Arcadia Quest, but I wonder if the ‘dungeon-crawl’ part is just fancy spin on their 4-way race to finish quests. More is better, but there comes a time when the packaging cannot cover-up the sameness.
That said, I’m looking forward to learning more.
Say it ain’t so. They just ended an Arcadia Kickstarter. I need another year to recover, CMON.
