Classic Board Game CATAN Goes 3D In New Collector’s Edition!
May 27, 2021 by fcostin
CATAN for most board game my age and above seems to be some kind of catalyst. The game has stood strong for years upon years, gaining new editions, expansions, collectors editions - you name it! Yet CATAN has just upped it's game once more - pun very much intended. KOSMOS and CATAN Studio have teamed up to create CATAN in a brand new experience, entitled CATAN: 3D Collector's Edition.

CATAN in 3D is something we have heard on the horizon for a long time, keeping that rumour mill going for the next instalment to such a beloved game. Now the classic board game is growing, quite literally, and embodying the classic design with a warm and hearty touch.

The 3D version of CATAN is very special indeed, featuring hand-sculpted and hand hand-painted terrain pieces from the game's designer, Klaus Tueber. However what I find really interesting about the paintwork, is that although painted in a beautiful striking colour palette, the authenticity of the game very much stands. It still at heart has the look and feel of CATAN at its very core - regardless of the evolution.
This fancy new collector's edition was up for pre-order on the 25th of May, and held the price tag of a whopping $300! So if you are a collector of all things CATAN, this will be one to not be missed.
What is your favourite version of CATAN?

looks interesting never played Catan.
For those that have not played Catan this is a bling version of the base game (3-4 players) plus the Cities and Knights expansion…which adds complexity and makes the game longer to play.
It looks cool but the way you have to put stuff on the tiles is going to be a nightmare with all these three dimensional pieces…
THREEHUNDRED!? Noooope!
Nothing says “Collectors’ edition” like a big price tag … 😉
I like Star Trek Catan as the crew special powers add some much needed variety in to the game. I would not pay $300 for this (or any) board game. It would be cheaper to buy a 3D printer and do it yourself.
thanks for your post, that’s great
I found this spider solitaire 2 suits so exciting,

First thoughts looks great, then I scrolled down…
HOW MUCH!!!!!!!
Very much a collectors edition, even then I wonder is a $20-30 board game really worth 10x its usual price?
I would suggest folks pick up the 25th Anniversary edition instead (unless they have $300 spare).
