John gets my vote for “Good Sport of the Year” for drilling gun barrels.
Poor John…. he is not just Warren’s Hobby bitch but, he now has the Backstager’s bossing him around too. The poor b@$st@rd……. thoughts and well wishes are with you mate. Maybe you’ll get Christmas off ….. but then. there are a lot of rifle barrels to be drilled in an Astra Militarum army , 😀
It’s the Weekend!
Damn, that Chronicle X is looking nice and shiny!
Looking at the Chronicle X KS preview, a welcome sight early on the stretch goals is the foam insert. A step up from the usual vacuum molded plastic tray and saves a typical £20+ additional investment.
Asymmetric gameplay may be an issue for some – one player’s got to be the baddie. Although an AI enemy may be attractive you never quite get the challenge an organic overmind presents!
I think if you look around here you will find many baddies and the players who love them. Personally I wouldn’t mind a more AI version just so I can play a co-op game or on my own. Sometimes I just want to play some live action XCom.
Those pre paints although looking nice would be way outside my budget for even skirmish gaming. I do think there aimed at Toy soldier collectors
This is a Kickstarter project (not delivered yet) (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/infivention/square-off-worlds-smartest-chess-board-relaunched) where you can play on a physical chessboard against an AI opponent or somebody else on an app and the board will move the opponent’s pieces automatically.
That is an awesome find indeed for real world to digital cross platform. Az
Ooh spreadsheets… talk dirty to me!
FYI, while I love the nerf gun, have you guys/@warzan seen the nerf terrascout (other spellings may be available) it’s essentially a remote Control car with a camera linking to the hand set so you can drive and shoot… I think BoW towers needs one…
Happy Weekend!
Chronicle X, Oh (BLEEP!) Yes, please! I’m in! The Miniatures designs are loaded with references.
Happy Weekend guys, looks like someone has turned up John’s hobby knob to max, really enjoying all the content and now feeling guilty about my comments on the hobby logs.
Happy Weekend peeps, just about to head off to watch some sci-fi film that’s all the rage at the moment 🙂
Amazing job John does with all his projects! Agree we can be a little hard on him but hey we are all learning some great ideas and techniques from him and the community. Love these VLOGs!
Just me or does Chronicle X sound/look like a massive X-COM rip-off??
Indeed — and you’d think that this company in particular would be motivated to avoid IP disputes…
Remember a Nerf Gun painted up to not be bright and toylike has the potential to get you reported to (or even shot by) the police people………..
keep it indoors and away from any windows the public can see in
Curse you, VCRA! Curse you!
KD:M for Christmas you say 🙂
John is a hobby god, best hobby vlog ever.
STAR WARS the last jedi has stolen the community for the weekend.
For anyone interested in 9th age but doesn’t want to do it in 28mm there is an excellent Facebook page called Minihammer which was set up by some nice people I think in the Netherlands. It’s all about playing in 10 and 15mm with individually mounted figures

Great show as always. Love those elves but blimey I wish these companies would do alternate space elves instead of fantasy ones 🙂 Both for Eldar, Mantics version (?) and Shadowrun type games. I’d like to see more sci if bows too!!
Yes more sci-fi with fantasy races! Love me some more Shadowrun minis, especially if Sprawl Ganged ever comes out.
John: On your Prussonian tank project. If you’re wanting to keep your tank clean you should make some swab lads with sponges on sticks to clean the treads as it rumbles around the battlefield. Mebbe could use some drummer boy style mini and convert it to carry buckets and sponges on sticks.
Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon Stations.
I think the Perry’s have figured something out here. Their sculpts are some of the best in the business and even if the paints aren’t AtoZ or @elromanozo level they will get players to get armies into the field. This will fill a need in the industry.
Justin, pick a color. Red, grey and black?
How long will it take for Cesar to draw a strip with Az in those boots?
Yes, KDM is comming back, a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
2:50 – @johnlyons – some of us are with you, no matter what the genre or subject or decisions made during your hobby VLOGs. 😀 A little while ago during the Waffen SS army, there was a debate when you announced you’d be painting that StuH commander in a panzer black uniform instead of artillery gray. The comments kinda jumped on the fact that it should be artillery gray. Although the gray is the “right answer” 90% of the time, I tried to make the case you could really go either way (gotta stick up for the Tank God)! As… Read more »
On the subject of online play for LCGs, the ones you mentioned all exist, and their is also theironthrone.net for A Game of Thrones. I, for one, am looking forward to digital Lord of the Rings. At the minute I’d love to play more but I can only really play solo, and faffing about with the setup puts me off. A digital version solves that problem!
I figure if they are going to make @johnlyons paint ‘all the minis’ then film it. Especially since we have a good chance of getting the exact moment he flips out recorded for posterity.
Not to be a negative Ned here, but I’d be more interested in Chronicle X if the set offered more alien variants because, for me, the biggest selling point is the miniatures. If you’re going to rip off, er, heavily borrow from XCOM, you really need to bring it and offer at least a half dozen alien types. (And while there may be three types of Grays, it still basically only counts as one alien species.) There’s been such an overwhelming deluge of board games in recent years thanks to Kickstarter, but damn few of them have any longevity to… Read more »
Happy Weekend! Getting such a X-Com vibe off Chronicle X . . . I may have to go for this one.
a fab show guys love the work you do john.
