Chip Theory Confirms Elder Scrolls: Betrayal Of The Second Era
January 31, 2022 by fcostin
In May last year, tabletop gamers were puzzled by Chip Theory Games' announcement on their Twitter Page. Featuring a well-known symbol for video gamers who have dipped into the Elder Scrolls Franchise. With no information regarding the upcoming title housed at Chip Theory, we were scratching our heads at whether we would be entering into a new board game, RPG or a completely different tabletop experience altogether.
Now we have more information, as Chip Theory Games have announced their upcoming title coming to Gamefound in October 2022 with, Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era.

Collaborating with The Elder Scrolls online team, Chip Theory Games will be producing a board game title for 1-4 players. Allowing players to explore the wide world of Tamriel, as they investigate the Order of the Black Worm in hopes of foiling the evil plans of Daedric Prince Morag Bal.
We are still quite a while away from the campaign, therefore information is pretty sparse! However, what we do know is that 1-4 players will be cooperating in a mix of character building, dungeon crawling and exploration across the diversity that Tamriel brings. If you have already played Too Many Bones (another title from Chip Theory Games), you will be familiar with the bespoke character creation before diving into the adventures.

The game will be played out over a 3-session campaign, each session taking roughly an hour to complete. However, as the game has been designed for replayability, each decision made will not affect another playthrough. Alike the video game, the game boasts many outcomes, directions, routes and approaches to the story and progression of the title.
This is not the first time we have seen The Elder Scrolls on the tabletop. With previous releases from Modiphius as a miniatures game with Call to Arms, and upcoming board game: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim The Adventure Game. The newest installment to the franchise from Chip Theory Games focuses on Tamriel as a whole, rather than the story of the fifth video game instalment, Skyrim.
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on the Chip Theory Games Twitter page for more information regarding the upcoming board game title heading to Gamefound this Autumn.

What does? They showed us literally nothing of the gameplay. Just hype and some close ups of player boards devoid of all context and content.
