Anything involving Beowulf tends to catch my attention and so when I saw that Beowulf Legends: Terror At Heorot was getting itself an Italian edition, I had to check out the game itself which released last year in 2017.

I'm not a big fan of the Sutton Hoo helmet that has been photoshopped over Hrothgar's head here, and the Italian version is decidedly better...

...but aside from that bit of graphical weirdness, the premise of the game is intriguing. As a card drafting game that immediately got my attention.

Split over four rounds, the game tells the story of Beowulf and the defeat of Grendel. You are working to have the most gold and fame by the end of the game, be it by praising and honouring Hrothgar, or defeating the beast Grendel and ridding Heorot of its tainted shadow.

The player who most got battered and bruised by Grendel is even buried at the end of the game! That's quite a way to decide who the loser is and is much better than a wooden spoon.

Have you played this game?
