Capstone Games Rework Terra Mystica With Simplified Terra Nova!
June 27, 2022 by brennon
Terra Nova is a new board game coming to the tabletop soon from the folks at Capstone Games. This is a reimplementation and reworking of the hit strategy board game Terra Mystica which has been simplified to make it easier to dive into.
Terra Nova // Capstone Games
Terra Mystica is a well-loved strategy game of full information where everything is done through cunning and planning out the best way to use the resources available to you. Whilst this is great, it also means that it can be a little bit daunting to dive in and get your head around its mechanics.
Terra Nova moves to make it easier to get stuck in where two-to-four players can play out a game in around sixty to ninety minutes rather than 150.
Terra Nova Set-Up // Capstone Games
Still, there are ten different factions for you to choose from in Terra Nova, each with its own abilities to master. In classic Euro Game "peaceful competition" with other players, you will be erecting buildings and settling new territories. With more territory come more victory points.
It will be interesting to see just how Terra Nova matches up to its grander sibling. Both games can (at least according to BGG) be played with those aged twelve and above but it feels like this has been made to make things a lot more accessible. I certainly appreciate the new art style, updated components and general aesthetic. It looks a lot more inviting and less "stuffy".
Are you tempted to snap this up, perhaps as a fan of the original Terra Mystica?

Terra Mystica is a great game. It does require all the players to be on the same skill level as there are some optimal strategies for each faction.
I will take a look at this new ‘lite’ version.
looks interesting.
