Call Of Duty Hits The Tabletop With Board Game Kickstarter

Arcane Wonders are now live on Kickstarter with their board game version of the hit first-person shooter game, Call Of Duty. Play as iconic characters like Soap McTavish, Ghost and Captain Price in a recreation of the frenetic gameplay you get from the video game.

Call Of Duty: The Board Game is a two-player affair where you will choose your prepainted Operator and decide on what layout they're going to be bringing to the fight. You'll then secretly plan your actions from behind your screen and then execute them using simultaneous play.
This means that you'll have to think about your opponent's moves and how they're going to approach moving through the different maps included in the game. Will they try the same route again or perhaps this is the moment they come at you from the flank? It does mirror the action of the video game quite nicely, always having to cover various paths through a level in case an enemy jumps out at you.

Combat is then decided by the roll of dice but also your own tactical choices. You could go full auto on your opponent and try and hose them down but you might also benefit from taking a more tactical approach. All of your decisions will determine if you win in a firefight during those moments when you lock eyes on your foe.
Get taken out? No worries, you simply respawn and get to go again, looking to take out your opponent with the knowledge you've gained of their playstyle and weapons.
Now, I mentioned how the game is a two-player experience but that's not quite true. Whilst you can pick up either the Red or Blue set featuring Price & Makarov or Shepard & Ghost, you can also combine the two sets together and change the game into a four-player clash instead.
There is also a Collector's Edition available through the Kickstarter which contains what you'd expect from the two core sets plus more.

More bundles come with additional Operators for you to play as, taking your games up to a five or six-player experience, alongside a new gamemode as part of the Checkmate expansion.
Add-Ons // Call Of Duty: The Board Game
It wouldn't be a Kickstarter without the addition of some Stretch Goals. You can get your hands on a bunch of them to tie into your pledge that features alternative Killstreak options and more. Some nice nods to the video game that would be fun to see slotted in with those core game experiences.

The game does seem like a lot of fun and Arcane Wonders seem like they've put a lot of effort into trying to match the tabletop experience to the gameplay of Call Of Duty's video game outings. I like the secret planning and plotting alongside the simultaneous reveal of your actions in the heat of the moment. It should make for a fun challenge, especially with more players in the mix.
