Begin The Brawlin’ & Scorin’ With Slaughterball!
February 12, 2014 by brennon
Frog The What Games have gone all 80's on us and bought a futuristic fantasy sports game to the tabletop and Kickstarter called Slaughterball. Dive in and check out the teams of neo-humans below...
Each of the teams above comes in the main boxed game alongside a mass of tokens, cards, and even some Mavericks who must be fighting for no team in particular. As well as that you also get your hands on a double-sided game board.
Funding the game will enable you to unlock new full teams, additional Mavericks and more. It looks very cool and following on from the success of games like DreadBall and with Guild Ball on the horizon there is plenty of fantasy sports to go around.
At the top I've also added the Dice Tower preview of Slaugherball so you can get a closer look at the components and see how it all comes together.
I'm quite a fan of the funky art style and the miniatures look fairly good, certainly good enough for a board game. I think I'd have to throw my lot in with either Nemesis or those Nordic beauties, the Valkyries.
What do you think of Slaughterball?

Am I the only one who has a problem with these paid previews?
And… I actually already own a game called Slaughterball. Do I smell another international lawsuit?

For those who are interested there is also a thorough rules overview video on the project’s kickstarter page.
From what I’ve seen so far, I am really impressed.
I am happy with Dreadball 🙂
Really like The Dice Tower, especially their top ten lists with Zee, Sam and Tom which are hilarious, but from watching Ryan’s (Not bothered gluing the figures together) Dreadball review I don’t know if he’s the right person to preview this type of game?
I’m still picking up Dreadball too but this looks really nice……ah bugger. I was going to stay away from KS this year. I guess I made it to………..February 🙁
Decisions……..
I quite like the concept and rules shown so far.
I’m a big DreadBall fan and this looks like it has a different approach (e.g., scoring points from hitting other players in addition to scoring goals). I also like the scatter mechanic—basically roll a d8 and whoever’s in last place gets to place the ball up to that many spaces away. Avoids overly fiddly templates and multiple, multiple, multiple bounce shenanigans.
Definitely plan on picking this up.
Thanks a lot for writing this article about my game! If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask either here, on the Kickstarter page, or at board game geek. I’m just a one-man operation at Frog the What Games, so I could really use your help to get this funded. Thanks!
