Weekender: Boot Camp Building Tour & 4Ground’s Sci-Fi Buildings
November 21, 2015 by warzan
Welcome to The Weekender. We're sorry for missing last weeks episode but we're making up for it with a bumper show packed with all sorts of awesomeness AND some competitions!
Boot Camp Building Tour
First off Warren takes you on a guided tour of some of the terrain we've been working on for the Team Yankee Boot Camp that we're running next week in conjunction with Battlefront.
There's loads of interesting terrain here and we'll be sharing some of our techniques for making it.
4Ground's Sci-Fi Buildings
Hot on the footsteps of that 15mm Sci-Fi terrain we've got some 28mm scale terrain from 4Ground. We're showcasing their new Jesserai Buildings that we got in the studio.
Competition Time!
You could be in with the chance of winning a set of this Jesserai Terrain, in fact a whole Iapygian Starter Set both here on Frontstage and on Backstage on Sunday Morning.
All you have to do win is comment below here with...
“What would you like the first feature piece to be in the 4Ground Sci-Fi range and where would you like to see 4Ground go design-wise with these buildings in the future?”
We'll pick the winners soon and you'll be the proud new owner of some awesome buildings.
Dropfleet Shaltari Showcase
We're also going to be looking at how the Shaltari Fleet has turned out for Dropfleet Commander which is still doing well on Kickstarter.
Hawk Wargames have done some sterling work on bringing these ships to life in vibrant oranges.
Perditions Mouth & Win A Painted Demon
Last but not least we have a look at another Kickstarter called Perditions Mouth. This is a new take on the classic dungeon crawler with interesting new heroes and monsters.
Talking of monsters you can WIN yourself a copy of the Demon from their Kickstarter simply by commenting on tomorrow's XLBS episode. It will be painted by one of their team!
Grab A Free Backstage Trial & Watch XLBS Tomorrow
Don't forget to listen out to see if you are a winner of our Dropfleet & EDEN prizes. If you are go and claim your prize HERE.
Have a great weekend!

nice town terrain
Happy Friday night!
ugh i should really go to bed and watch this in the morning.
aghhh but i really want that crazy terrain!
and normal service has resumed, phew I was getting worried there, last weekend was a sad place without you!
Ahhh , finally the weekend!
This weekend’s hobby job is to make up the 4ground Japanese buildings I picked up last week in Reading for Bushido.
For this set, how about some Solar Power units and other resource gathering and refining buildings? Why ship raw materials back to earth – more efficient to transport refined materials surely?
Good to see BOW giving away some great terrain
I would love to see 4grounds branch out into some more rugged sci-fi scenery. Lots of this stuff looks pretty similar in a shiny futuristic kind of way, and the oversized gothic style is a bit overdone, but something that is a bit less squarish and more rugged looking might be fantastic. Think along the lines of borderlands basically, kind of a cross of post apocalyptic and sci-fi.
As a feature piece, I think something like a habitation cluster, a factory, or even refinery. Alien worlds have to have something worth refining.
Unrelated, but seeing your avatar just wanted to say: “Go Team Venture!” 😉
How many times can I like this comment.
Go team david bowie
I do not agree, I think most of us have some skill to make some rugged terrain, but to make ideally laser cutted piece you must have some more than a scalpel 😉
It’s much easier to make rugged piece from ideal one than the other way 😀
Right now I’m playing a lot of Infinity and I will gladly see some more modular sci-fi specialistic buildings like hospitals, landing zones, some part of military zones etc. Ordinary buildings you can buy almost anywhere 🙂
Happy Weekend!
I would love to see a vehicle storage and repair building/hangar. A large advanced research facility with multiple floors would be great too.
Some height for Infinity… not a “sniper tower” – they seem artificial!
That Jesserai stuff is super cool, things like landing pads and air traffic control towers would help flesh it out. Cool looking power generators and such too.
I have seen better terrain but still nice!
Love the new 4ground sci fi terrain. Would be awesome to see some sort of hydroponics dome.
The first 4Ground specialist building I would like to see is a vehicle repair shop. Make it two to three stories with a large open bay complete with vehicle lifts and a pit. This would be a great building to grime up and you can use it as a deployment zone for vehicles. As well as an open area, it should have a one or two story storage and inventory area, with a couple of storage cages and industrial shelving. In one corner of this side, include the Worst Toilet in Scotland from Trainspotting!
Best Weekender I’ve seen yet. Really liked the look around your compound. Great to see the ammount of work you are putting into the bootcamp – the people going are in for a treat. 4grounds sci-fi building are much better than I thought from the initial pictures – thet looked a bit boring there. But the are great. Would look cool combines with Mantics Battlezones, 4grounds being a highend compound for finer folks. I think they should do a science/lab/medical compound. With lods of static chambers/breeding pods/cloning tanks. It would have so many different uses. Medical compound for large battles,… Read more »
I’ll like to see a building going back to the first “Total Recall” one that deals with digging to the planet cire to get to the ice to turn it into air. Kinda of a huge air processing unit.
😉

Sorry meant to say ( planet core )

I would like to see a Terraforming building with hubs connected by short hallways. The idea being that this building was deployed in a drop pod style and so this would be noticeable in the buildings design. Inside you could find each hub is dedicated to different aspects of terraforming. one could be an atmosphere processor. another could be power generators, another could be a greenhouse, another could be the cryotubes or cryochambers where the terraforming crew slept during the journey, a small mess hall, and a small lab for mineral researching, a mechatronics workshop and such. basically thus could… Read more »
A mining complex would be excellent. Dig it up at one end , process it and ship it out at the other end. A great place for colonial marines to have a bug hunt.
Missed this show last week! Feels good to have it back!
4-Ground = I wanna see a huge factory, fabricating Mars land vehicles with walkways inside and a hanger! Lots of heavy machinery with robotic arms building stuff and cranes and and and… I dunno, industrial stuff!
…. Or a huge satellite dish for interplanetary communications??
4ground brought us the Stoic Arms so on the same theme why not bring out a large cantina! Plus little instruments for the band 😉
I’d love to see 4Ground create some medical facilities, perfect for some viral outbreak scenarios.
Awesome show guys.
An add on set with walkways so you can start to connect everything together to build a larger complex, kind of like the facility in Aliens 🙂
i like to see a 28mm version of the district 1 corporate building from dropzone
I’d really like to see something along the lines of a town square. I don’t know quite what the future equivalent is, but anyway – a fairly open area, maybe with some kind of central statue or hologram or computer terminal, surrounded by planters and parking space. lots of cover round it, like vehicles, benches, notice boards and so on, all available in one pack that includes the plaza underneath it!
I would make a rock processing facility. Companies will be invested only if they can profit from finding resources in the ground. Something like the conveyor belt of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom but in a futuristic style.
