Bloodhunt Sets Cultists Against Vampires In New Warcry Set
January 27, 2023 by brennon
Games Workshop delved deeper into The Mortal Realms with new previews for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry and Warhammer Underworlds. We'll start with Warcry and the new Bloodhunt boxed set which pits two new warbands against each other in the heart of the Gnarlwood.

This set sets a band of monastic vampires against the frenzied forces of Khorne. Both warbands from this set are looking great but we'll start with those Soulblight Vampires and the Askurgan Trueblades.
Askurgan Trueblades // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry
This band of bloodsuckers are actually exactly the opposite. They try and abstain from drinking blood and are attempting to channel their power in different ways. It makes a stand out from the classically Medieval European vampires that we've seen so far. There is a distinct Eastern vibe to their design and I think it's a great way to explore the many facets of The Mortal Realms.
As well as those who have managed to control their bloodlust, there are also others who have fallen. The wild and snarling members of the Trueblades can come back from the edge though but they will often be looked down on by the other Askurgan. A fantastic set that takes vampires in a different direction.
Going up against the Trueblades, we have the Claws Of Karanak who really like that mighty Flesh Hound Of Khorne.
Claws Of Karanak // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry
Charging into battle, these warriors have no compulsions about spilling blood and brutalising their enemies. You have a whole host of brutal warriors with equally brutal weapons to use on their enemies. You can skin your enemies with these weapons or simply cut their heads off and present their skulls to your mighty lord of blood, death and destruction.

I think I'd be quite happy to pick up both of these warbands and this could well be a solid way to dive into Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry for me. A fun new set that also comes with some excellent terrain!

Once again, you'll get enough bits and pieces for playing out the games from the new Bloodhunt book but you could also mix these pieces in with existing sets. Use them to create some fun and interesting battlefields for Warcry but also Warhammer Age Of Sigmar as a whole. We're seeing some walls get added into the mix here as people try and put together wonky settlements in the heart of the Gnarlwood.
New Warhammer Underworlds Warband!
Sitting alongside the Warcry release, we also have the deadly killers of Gryselle's Arenai. This is a new Daughters Of Khaine warband for use alongside Warhammer Underworlds complete with card pack and fun new abilities.

Gryselle's Arenai are gladiators and so they become inspired in-game by completing feats that would hype up the ground. Catch enemies in nets, slaughter someone in the third round or brutalise your opponent with a well-timed backstab. These ladies are a "glass cannon" of a force though so you'll want to think about when and where to strike. You can backflip out of trouble though if you roll well!
Could you be tempted by a new Warcry or Warhammer Underworlds warband?

Fabulous looking figures the Askurgun would be great with blue hair they’ll look like an army of Ariel witches ?
The Askurgan unit looks like a good break from what has been GW’s general motif and the box art paint job sells it well. It’s a halfway point between kensai and the Men of the East.
Those look really good.
