Let’s Play: Spartacus – A Game Of Blood & Treachery
August 15, 2016 by lloyd
We're hitting the sands of the arena for a Let's Play of Spartacus: A Game Of Blood & Treachery, the fantastic board game by Gale Force Nine.
With backstabbing, underhanded dealings and plenty of blood and guts in the arena this should prove to be a battle of wits and iron for Lloyd, Justin and Lance.
Follow along and let us know who you think was the best Lanista!
What are your favoured tactics for Spartacus?

Ohhhhh . . . hell yeah! I remember this series, I have all the seasons, and I remember playing this game with everyone at the pub at the Team Yankee Bootcamp! Crixus! SHALL WE BEGIN!!!
Will be interesting to see if the guys play better sans alcohol 😉
BoW Ben
Blood rains down from an angry sky!
I won’t finish this song!

Aww! No one’s playing Good Solonius! At least Lance is playing Batiatus. 😀 And of course the card has Lucy Lawless’ character in the picture. Nice! 😀
I wanted Spartacus!
1:04:08 – Witness me! 😀
This is a great game, it’s definitely in my top ten board games list. It’s one of those games that’s great to take down the pub to play.
43:45 – Lloyd with the Star Trek fight theme!

48:09 – In the show: Gannicus was always cooler than Spartacus anyway. 🙂
Star Trek fight theme – Has to be done!
Lance rolls 5 defense dice right off the bat when he should have rolled 4, and no one notices! These gladiator matches are fixed! House Justin runs some shady games
Well, it is a game of “Blood and Treachery.” Should “cheating” be encouraged?
Lol, maybe I should try sneaking in cards and coins too!
i agree!!! played against @Lloyd and Justin @Dignity a few weeks ok and was crippled at the start. Have to have a rematch lads.
Love this game, play it regularly at the club with 6 players and it is the funniest 5 hours I ever spend there. Enjoyed it so much I bought myself a copy of the base game.
Brilliant to watch you guys play my favorite game.
Geesh, I can’t even bring myself to watch the video since I will always associate the game with that image of Justin above.
Suggestion for upcoming Let’s Play: all those Kickstarter/crowd funding games that you guys gush over in the past and then Nothing, i.e. Afterlife, Guild Ball, etc. And, one word for Ben: Frostgrave.
Lloyd how on earth . I was completely fooled by your plan of only buying weapons and having no gladiators. Lance singing about cock was the best bit though. would be interesting to see you guys play the game in full now you have a handle on the rules. gave me the giggles more than once . love seeing people get excited at seeing content that they love , here’s looking at you oriskany. getting into the spirit of things throwing quotes about, good job sir. these would be even more entertaining if we had cosplay. slow mo and the… Read more »
“Lloyd how on earth . I was completely fooled by your plan of only buying weapons and having no gladiators.” lol I know a master plan that was 🙂
May be mistaken, but I think Justin has got his facts on the thumbs up/down a tad muddled – unless I’m mistaken, the sign for live was a clenched fist (Latin was something like Pollux compressus), not thumbs down. As I understand it, the clenched fist represented a sheathed sword and th thumbs up an unsheathed one (hence why thumbs up was the kill sign). As for the game, looks very entertaining; wouldn’t mind seeing a Fantasy version with various Fantasy races taking to the arena – shouldn’t be too hard to adapt if anyone wanted to do so, just… Read more »
As tends to be the case, we’re not entirely sure, and have to make do with best guesses based on what evidence we have. Those pesky Romans really should have taken more photos lol
Yeah. Think I’ve read somewhere that there’s some debate over whether the kill sign was just a thumbs up, or was a thumbs up with a jabbing motion to the neck. Think the only thing agreed upon is that the thumbs up = live, thumbs down = die combo is pure movie and was never used. Also, it’s probably worth remembering that death matches were the exception rather than the rule – gladiators were expensive to train and keep so it’s understandable why their owners wouldn’t want to risk losing that investment every single match. And some were more like… Read more »
Spartacus is a great game!
Nice one guys, really enjoyed that, i keep hearing about this game, now im convinced i need it…..just need to convince the missus now :p
I love this game! Great video, guys. By the way Justin, you’re right. You can play as many Schemes as you like so long as you have the required influence. There is no limit.
awesome game, bought it after playing it at the last boot camp:-)
@Lloyd won AGAIN!!! jammy git, well done sir.
Why thank you sir.
Good video and a nice bit of content.
That actually looks pretty good. Most games based on TV and film suck.
