Blood Bowl Pre-Orders Begin November 12th
November 7, 2016 by brennon
This coming weekend marks the start of pre-orders being taken for Blood Bowl meaning that we could see the game released by Games Workshop on the 19th November!
This is a lot earlier than most people thought, some penning in the release to be towards the end of November for a December release. Games Workshop has, in the recent past, put up games for pre-order a couple of weeks ahead of schedule (Lost Patrol, Gorechosen) so it will be interesting to see how this one works out.
This is a great news though as there are plenty chomping at the bit to get their hands on Blood Bowl.
If the game has you excited then you can go and check out the Unboxing and Team Rundown by Games Workshop HERE in video form.
Will you be getting this?

So looking forward to this, can hardly wait.
I am so getting this.
And it is not surprising that it is going on pre order this weekend, considering how many people have been sent early review copies these last weeks.
No idea why but BB has never peaked my interest but I am glad to see the return of the boxed games. What I’ve seen so far of GWs work with BB gives me confidence that future games will be well handled.
Makes me eager to see what they do with Necromunda…plus those Stealer Cult minis look almost made for that game…
@lostegg my thoughts exactly, very excited to play a necromunda with chaos and genestealer cults in it, and you know modern sculpted spyrers would be amazing mini’s!
I think you might be waiting a while tbh, because rumours seem to be suggesting that the next game to make a comeback, might involve Titans.
Necromunda being re-done would be a big job, if only to sort out what kind of scenery you’d potentially get in a starter box.
I will say I’ve never really been a massive fan of true line of sight, but that could mainly be down to some incredibly exhausting arguments against some people I ended up playing about whether someone was in soft or hard cover.
@fleetey No probs with me, I’d much rather they took their time and got it right, I’ve got loads of painting to do to keep me busy 😀
Titans might be cool, I nearly picked up the first edition of Adepts Titanicus for my first game but it got beaten by Space Hulk in the end…by the gods that was a long time ago now…
I’ve never really understood how much trouble TLoS seems to have caused, its never really come up as a biggie in the games I’ve played. There must be some really awkward people out there.
Of the two I prefer abstract, because it’s very much easier to determine whether someone is in LoS without argument, though no LoS system is perfect. It can lead to some odd interactions between minis and terrain, though then again, nothing as odd as the transition between 7th and 8th ed WFB, where all of a sudden our regular gaming started to have hills so small you could see all the way across them lol
As you say, there as some people who just love to argue; this guy wasn’t a great sport at the best of times, in addition to not paying much attention to rules. One particular instance was playing a 3 way game of 40k with his brother. His brother shot (first roll of the entire game) his Warboss and got a lucky wound in, and then it all kicked off with this guy just lamping his brother so hard in the eye that he couldn’t open it. I’m easy going; I can’t be bothered to spend more than a few secs… Read more »
The likes of Warmachine, Malifaux, Relic Knights, Batman/Marvel, and loads of others do LoS by volume which heights assigned if needed. It’s so much easier to see if an unbroken like can be drawn from attacker’s base to target’s, or whether more than half the base is obscured by terrain, instead of figuring out how much of an arm needs to be seen, and to not worry about the post the mini is in.
*the pose the mini is in
Aye. Most of them even give a “height value” to the terrain, so you don’t have to sit there and wonder whether or not you can hide behind that wall.
I think the worst is when you have a Juve hide behind a wall very deliberately, then on your opponent’s turn he declares that he can see your toe and fires his lascannon at you (poor Juve).
Fair enough. I’ve not played with that mechanic but it seems too abstract for my tastes. But then I’ve never been that competitive; winning is cool but mostly I just want a fun game…in fact my most fun and memorable games are where I’ve lost.
To be fair, I’ve never played against anyone so competitive that fists started flying lol. It’s not so much that people get competitive, though it certainly can be a problem, as it is that it’s often not clear cut whether someone is in LoS, and then there’s the post of the mini to take into account as well. It means it can be difficult to figure out whether a mini is in LoS, necessitating a judgement call agreed upon by the players. Abstract systems which go by base size and volume rarely have these issues. As long as you agree… Read more »
Still seems odd though to me, never really been an issue but I can see why it might cause problems.
I wonder how long BB will be supported for…They’ve said plastic kits for some more teams, but what comes after they have dropped. Suppose its down to demand.
Looking forward to the (hopefully) renewed interest in BB ’round these parts- been painting up my “Ratmen” Team from Black Scorpion in anticipation…
As far as LOS goes, I much prefer the more organic ‘True’ LOS- in my own group we simply say that if a model can see an enemy, then that enemy can also see them. Simple, and everyone knows where they stand- deals nicely with kneeling poses and so on!..
Not counting paint pots, this is the first GW product I’m going to buy in a long, long time.
Price seems to be 85€/$99/£65.
As a veteran player, there seems to be little reason to pick this up. Although they seem to have put some subtle differences in with regard board size etc.
I do have a few concerns about the release model to make this a success. Still hopefully it does well.
I am so looking forward to getting this, disposed of my first edition of this (and my squats…sob) back when I “grew up” ….(that was a silly immature idea really) I like the idea of coloured plastic as it allows me to circumvent my “no paint , no play rule” …….Really looking forward to the Season 1 book also … sigh…. happy days
I’ve played this game, but not as a kid and I do not have the nostalgia factor either. Its good its coming back but I’m just not excited for it. I tried. I dont get the game to be honest. I’ve played dreadball and loved it but this isn’t my cup of tea.
@mage I do have the nostalgia, I like the game, still think it shows its age in terms of game design. Dreadball is a more modern reworking of the concept with a different sport basis.
I also think price point and lack of clarity as to when you will be able to access a full team has dampened my enthusiam. I think that may also be an issue for new players. Plus the first expansion released on release smacks of content that should just be in the core game.
I tried Dreadball and quite enjoyed it, turns were more condensed because of the lower player numbers and limited activations. It seemed to play more like Basketball than Football though…
Looking forward to the new BloodBowl Box, mainly for the new pitch and some of the plastic bits.
I don’t have nostalgia (I’ve been playing BB since 2nd edition and never really stopped) because I still play in a league and go to tournaments…
Looking fwd to getting Death Zone and seeing what the ‘costly mistake’ and new league information/guidelines are like.
I loved Blood Bowl when it first came out. I really bought into it – the companion books, DungeonBowl, a few different teams and so on. But after a few plays, it turned out that I loved the idea of the game more than the actual game itself.
I’d love this to be really great but it just looks like a re-launch (albeit with brilliant looking minis). Which means the same rules. Which means the same old “create a cage and grind your way to the end zone” type play that everyone eventually settles on.
