November 12, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop has now made the Fantasy Football game of Blood Bowl available to pre-order with a release date of the 26th November!
Inside the set you get...
- 12x plastic Human players: 2 Blitzers, 2 Throwers, 2 Catchers and 6 Linemen;
- 12x plastic Orc players: 2 Blitzers, 2 Throwers, 2 Black Orc Blockers and 6 Linemen;
- Extra balls, team counters, and bases featuring holes to place the ball in, indicating possession;
- A double-sided foldout card pitch – one Orc side, one Human side, each divided into squares to regulate movement and combat;
- 2x card dugouts, each with a Human team’s sideline on one side and an Orc sideline on the other;
- A deck of cards detailing Special Plays and Star Players, as well as references for the included miniatures;
- 2x sets of dice, coloured blue for the Humans and green (of course!) for the Orcs – a mix of D6 Block dice, ordinary D6’s, D8’s and D16’s;
- A 56-page rulebook – this contains the basic rules of Blood Bowl, a number of optional extra rules, a guide to assembling your teams and the story of Blood Bowl’s origins;
- A range ruler and throw-in template;
- A sheet of decals containing number and team symbols, and a list of player positions that can be applied to the edge of your models’ bases.
Of course you can't play the game without some neat looking teams and the Blood Bowl set comes with coloured plastics for the Humans and Orcs.
Fans of Blood Bowl will enjoy seeing these two stalwarts getting stuck into the football awesomeness.
As well as the Humans & Orcs Games Workshop have also designed a plastic Skavenblight Scramblers team for you to use in your games to mix things up.
There are already a fair few folks interested in getting stuck into this game and exploring it once more. While not much has changed rules-wise its nice to see them giving support to the game again for tournaments and more.
Will you be snapping this up?

Will I be snapping this up ….. yes …..yes I have ……. (I feel so dirty)
Ah Nostalgia, one of the few times you get to feel good about getting old. If its still around in the new year I expect I’ll grab a few teams…
Oh man, I want this and I don’t really know why…
It would have been nice to see the skaven team come with their own cardboard dugout but it’s still great to see that support for the game might exist longterm
Just took a look at the close ups of the orks on the GW site… I’m not one to go around pointing at bad paint jobs but…. LOOK AT THAT BAD PAINT JOB! for a studio miniature, they are a mess! not in a good orky way! just in a messy way! What’s that all about?
Passing on this, feel it offers existing players little.
Release model is unimpressive expansion on release to make a full game, no news on expanding teams and game play effecting exclusives. It’s every crap move from the video games industry in one.
Plus sit this next to the Kick off for Guildball and its not favourable
Looks awesome. Might be time to break out my old 3rd edition version and celebrate by having a game
£65! Thats a good price. I was going to buy it anyway and had expected £75 minimum.
Happy man
I’ve pre-ordered everything…. loved the original version and played it a lot.
With a plastic Dwarf team coming out soon, and plans for other teams in resin, it is a fairly exciting time for someone like me who is looking to get back into the game – hopefully i’ll find a few opponents.
Did someone say a plastic Dwarf team????? Awesome
Oh yes, plastic Dwarves are coming…
There may be other plastic teams, but this will depend on demand. All other teams and star players will be released in resin via Forge World.
Not a huge fan of the game but the art design, minis and price are all pluses for me
Okay I am going to say it.
IT’S THE BLOODBOWL!
Obligatory disbelief in the $200 Australian price.
Seriously, what the &@#!?
Mate it’s $165

yeah still not cheap but $35 is $35
My bad, GW loaded the New Zealand site for me for some reason. Still, $165 isn’t great and my point still stands, where do they get off charging $195 for New Zealand customers?
And once again, it’s my favorite part of the weekend; waiting for the US webstore to be updated….
Once again I can’t say I’m impressed with GW’s ability to predict demand. When I left the house the online store hadn’t been updated and when I arrived at the local GW maybe 40 minutes later, the Skaven team and dice were both out of stock. Quite irritating when I’m so eagerly excited for this release.
I must resist buying new Blood Bowl but it surely is tempting.
Bloodbowl is my favourite game from GW with regards to ease of pick up and play. it fits nicely as a halfway house between a boardgame and a table top miniatures game. The campaign playability allows you to really take ownership. It is great to see GW support this game, that has really flourished despite a lack of company support. Proves just how much love there is for the game. Whilst there is nothing that super ground breaking from this release for the existing player base, it totally makes sense to repackage the game, given the developments in miniature production.… Read more »
Really like the Skaven team; makes me very excited for any future releases they might get not just in terms of BB. Hopefully a Rat Ogre arrives at some point.
The only slight disappointment is that the box seems to only have 2 gutter runners when really you need 4 (unless there are some rule changes) as with all things Skaven, they tend to die.
Anyway happy days to see this come back and hopefully see a bunch of new players get a chance to play the game. I imagine you’ll see a whole bunch of Leagues pop up at stores.
It’s really damning for GW that they so completely underestimated demand for the Skaven. It was sold out within an hour – they should have had enough stock to get through Christmas! They knew this would be huge and they were trailing it for months, how could they get it do wrong? Just like with the series of End Times release debacles, this is a company throwing away money because it is terrified of holding stock for any length of time. It doesn’t suggest that there is any real intention to have this as a supported game with the full… Read more »
The Skaven team aren’t sold out, only the dice and doesn’t GWs always do limited stock on faction dice?
They were sold out earlier, or listed as temporarily unavailable or such, but it looks lke they’re taking preorders for them again.
You’re right @monsterhead, Faction specific dice have always tended to be limited stock, and they go very quickly. Skaven are available to pre order again on the GW site.
Well, i’d go for the orcs, they look like real players! Humans and rats, meh, not bad, but nothing special…
I’ll be passing on this, still having fun with Dreadball and Dreadball Xtreme.
Ordered
Ordered. Blood Bowl is a classic, so there was no way that I was going to pass on this. I’ve seen a few complaints about the lack of extra teams in Death Zone, but take a look at the cover. It says “season one”, so I’m confident there is more to come.
I have pre-ordered from my flgs.
What I am really excited for is further revival of Specialist Games – particularly Mordheim and Necromunda.
I never thought I’d ever buy another thing from Games Workshop but I’ve pre ordered this, looks like a lot of fun and the coming expansions give me hope for the long term.
It seems they stripped off the fun and cartoon style from the miniatures completely. Too bad.
We’re in the age of grit that killed campy along with cartoon style. We no longer get Adam West as Batman but rather a gravel voiced Christian Bale. I just seen a trailer about a group of teens that find some alien junk that makes then stronger and faster. Looked almost like Chronicle that these outcasts can now protect themselves. Sort of a coming of age story. Then the true is revealed… it’s a Power Rangers movie! My point is that the old campy take on things seem to have died and have been replaced with hyper realism and geared… Read more »
Opinions and all that, but having collected Skaven since they first released, I vastly prefer their current aesthetic compared to how they looked way back then.
