Blood Bowl Black Orcs Smash Their Way Onto The Pitch Soon
August 7, 2020 by brennon
Games Workshop continues the teasers for what's coming as part of the new edition of Blood Bowl this week. Yesterday, they revealed the new Black Orcs team which will be included in the Starter Set known as the Thunder Valley Greenskins.
Thunder Valley Greenskins // Blood Bowl
This team is pretty elite, bringing forth a wave of muscle and brutality that isn't normally seen in a traditional Orc team. Being more disciplined and focused compared to their cousins, they are focused on winning and that doesn't have to be via the breaking of backs. These Orcs actually like the idea of scoring!
As well as the Black Orcs, this team will also come with a band of Goblins who are also better than your average grunt. Whether or not they are actually going to perform better is down to the Dice God, Nuffle but we shall see. As a different team compared to your standard Orcs, these players come at a higher cost but if you like the idea of playing a more elite squad then you now have the option to do so.
Black Orcs // Blood Bowl
I really like the models here which give you a sense of their brutality and focus on getting to that endzone. The stances all show these Orcs leaning forward on the charge, ready to brace for a tackle or to smash through an opponent with the ball in hand.
With the Imperial Humans getting their hands on Griff Oberwald, the Black Orcs have managed to sign the masterful Star Player known as Varag Ghouldchewer! As you might have guessed by the name, he likes smashing his opponents into a pulp.

The new miniatures from Games Workshop for this new edition of Blood Bowl look awesome and it is becoming very hard to ignore them. I might even have to break out some of the classic miniatures from the set I have (still unpainted!) to try and quench that thirst for something Blood Bowl.
Snotlings - Runts With Spirit
As well as the new Black Orc team, you will also finally be able to get your hands on the new Snotling team which was teased many moons ago.
Snotling Team // Blood Bowl
This team is about as effective as a Halfling team in that they spend more time lying down in the dirt than they do actually scoring any touchdowns. However, if you want to play a team which requires patience and a bit of good humour then this could be for you. All of the players are looking fun and you also get those fun options with the stilts and pump wagon too.
Are you tempted to pick up some Greenskins for Blood Bowl?

I’m really liking the look of those new greenskins. And unless I’m mistaken, it looks like the orc team has different head options so that you can make each player distinct rather than having any repeats (as is typical for GW teams).
It does seem the way – a nice touch considering the Imperial Humans do have some obvious repeat sculpts.
if the heads are easy to swap I may have “some” Ork heads in reserve XD But monopose models… hmm
I *think* that’s true for most of the current teams: duplicate bodies but each with head options.
Thumbs up from me, looking forward to this ?
Goblins! SNOTLINGS! But the Ork mouth guards look stupid IMHO.
I think they look really cool – a call back to the Black Orcs from Warhammer Fantasy. I just love the idea that they can smash things with pretty much every part of their bodies haha
Colour me interested… but I should paint up my teams first before buying more…
Those are some nice big beefy orcs. Goblins that hang around them aren’t bad either.
The figures look great but I don’t play this game.
Did Varag change teams in the lore ?
Yeah I think it’s shame he is being rebranded as Black Orc, they could have just made up a new star player.
Really makes his current figure redundant.
Interesting that GW are taking over an FW model. Tbh it feels like stronger support for the game.
(Yeah maybe easy for me to say as I haven’t splashed out on any soon to be replaced FW star players.)
That’s a shame, definitely. They shouldn’t have turned him into a Black Orc with a slightly better profile,it takes a lot away from the character.
Better hope that a certain group of internet individuals do not see this… black and orc in the same sentence, they went after wizard of the coast for alot less then that.
HECK YEAH!!! After bringing back some classic Imperial players, it’s great to see the classic black orcs making a return!(And the fact that Varag has an impaled ghoul decorating his shoulder plate is just a great bonus!)
A team of six black orcs and a bunch of goblins?
I don’t disapprove of extreme teams with major weaknesses like this, but then I can’t tell what they’re talking about when they claim that these orcs are interested in scoring. They’re more like a less extreme Ogre team.
Man, those orcs are awesome!
I really don’t like the “shark” goblin but, i love the rest. Varag is impressive.
I agree, it’s not something I like on tm recent GW gobbos.
The good news is there ought to be two heads for that body. A bit of conversion on the other head and you’ll have a unique sculpt and no weird shark nonsense.
Indeed, a good deal of strange goblin heads in the last few years!
I’ll be checking this out, i might get back into Bloodbowl as i always loved the orcs and their sneaky goblins!
These new teams look bloody amazing!
I’m not too put out by Varag getting a new mini, I think he’s been around long enough to have become a black Orc (isn’t it an age thing?, correct me if I’m wrong)
Also, I have his old mini so he’ll match whatever team I play him with.
The Necromancer team they showed today look excellent as well.
Anything Blood Bowl related GW do gets a massive thumbs up from me ?
Really liking the look of all the new BloodBowl teams that have started to appear. They are all full of character. Personally though, my favourite by far are the Snotlings. Can’t wait to get my hands on this team in particular!
Stunning models! I think i’m going to end up collecting even more teams for a game I haven’t played in years! I love the aesthetic of BB
I mean who doesn’t need expensive dust collectors 😉
The more I look at the team there are are elements that grow on me. The size comparison of the team is good when you finally get all them on the table shot. The boys are big and bulky as opposed to the gobs, and Varag takes up the same space as an ogre. I see the same issue as the original with big figures being too big to show stunned or knocked down. Fanath seems to have gotten that idea and have a good selection of Big Guy markers for minotaurs, kroxigors, ogres when they aren’t on their feet.… Read more »
I have to say I like the humans a bit more than the orcs but the snotlings are great so s the Necromantic Horror team here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/08/07/terrifying-touchdowns-from-beyond-the-grave/
Hail The Old World !
I may well just buy the snotlings as a painting project.
