Blackout Board Game Offers Multiple Ways To Play On Kickstarter
May 21, 2015 by brennon
Blackout: Journey into Darkness by Nevermore Toys and Richard T. Broadwater is a new adventure board game where you play a team of characters going into the Northern Wastes to kill beasts and seek out glory. What's even better is that it works with a Games Master, in Solo Play and obviously with Co-Op too...
The Heroes
You can't have an adventure without any heroes and that's the first stopping point for Blackout with some awesome looking characters each with their own way of playing the game. See what you think of them below with some great artwork and painted examples of their miniatures too.
Each of them has a neat set of skills that make them sought after as part of a team in the wasteland. I think my favourites would have to be Thomas Kirk with his heavy duty weaponry and Jacob Moors who is all blades and shotguns.
The Enemies
On the other side of things we have the goes that these heroes are going to have to fight when they're out looking for glory in the darkness. The Brood represent these deadly threats out there looking to hunt down and kill these explorers...
As you can see they also have various traits that make them an interesting counter to the team of explorers. I think the Lurker is awesome and looks as if he's been dredged up from the depths of some Resident Evil or Dark Souls video game.
The Game
The game itself is still in the testing phases but that doesn't mean you can't give the rules a look. They have provided some Rough Rules for you to have a peek at and explained a little bit about the basics of it all on their Kickstarter page.
The game follows a grid based format that will be familiar to most dungeon delving veterans and uses D10 for combat. The game also works with a series of card that you can see attached to the character of Jacob Moors above with weapons, abilities and items all part of a growing repertoire of goodies for you to use.
This project relaunched after listening to the backers of its first one and it seems as if everything has been taken under advisement. The Kickstarter exploded again and has already smashed through its target funding goal. Hopefully we'll have a look at more from this as the project goes on.
What do you think?

love the figures.
I think that there are reasons to be cautious about this one. this game was launched on ks earlier, then cancelled by the creator. Now it has been relaunched with the same or more stuff included, and at a much lower target goal. I am not sure the funding will be enough. The creator has two earlier projects that as far as i know have not yet been delivered, or only partly delivered. On the other hand, there obviously has been put alot of work into this, it is presented well and the minis are printed out, and professionally painted,… Read more »
I posted the answer at the wrong place, sorry for the double post….
I asked the creator why he could reduce the funding goal over 50% and this is his answer:
As for the 55k dropping to 22K. It is the factory agreeing to do half the original production run.
Sounds ok for me..
I would be cautious about this one, he has two previous kickstarters that he hasn’t complete fulfillment on yet. One that is almost two years late on delivery.

I get that there are a lot of games out there and eventually there is going to be some name overlap, but having the subtitle be Journey into Darkness when the game Descent is Journeys in the Dark is a bit questionable. It gives the appearance that the games have some kind of relationship when there is none.
Looks like a nice game but with a few questions hanging over the project (and the sheer amount of stuff I’m already trying to paint) I might just wait until the final product hits the shelves and pick it up then.
I would avoid this like the plague as his website has many projects on the go with only 4 toy figures available. That is until you click on one to add to the cart and you realise you can’t buy them yet. It says the cart will activate when the rest of the monsters are added to the lineup. In other words, they have nothing for sale. A true sign that the company has it together is how fast they can go into production and have the product or service in the open market. If this company can’t get a… Read more »
tempting, will give it a go, after reading the comments above, I’m cautious and if it starts to smelly fishy I’ll drop it.
I have written a fairly long post on this to address what the creator has done to remedy issues that existed in past KS’s and how this one has been streamlined to prevent and minimize any others . Link:

Sorry, I missed when this was posted. My post is referring to the 3rd ( and best), iteration of this game Oct-Nov. 2015 KS, Improved, and fully funded. All that needs to happen now is for more SG’s to be met and the game will be complete.
