Ragusa is a worker placement game with some interesting mechanics. On their turn, a player may place a house along the edge of hex spaces in either the city or the countryside, thereby activating all three hexes which surround the development.

Country developments allow players to gather resources, while city activations spark powerful action combinations. When building in a city, every house also in that city becomes activated, regardless of which player they belonged to. This keeps all players engaged on every turn, and also adds another layer of strategy to the game.

Publisher Brain Crack Games have described the gameplay as "meshing together worker placement, market manipulation, hidden objectives, and trading". However, perhaps the most interesting thing about Ragusa is the components.

The game will come with interlocking components, including unique tower pieces which can be placed on top of houses, walls and transparent tracker beads. Since worker placement games are notoriously component heavy, it's reassuring to know that Brain Crack Games are putting quality craftsmanship into Ragusa.

Unfortunately, the game will not be appearing at Essen this year, but the Kickstarter is expected to launch soon. In the meantime, excited fans can sign up for updates here.
