Happy Sunday!
Welcome to xlbs. The paid service for Warren’s “I hurt myself today” stories. Remember folks, always keep plasters by your work station. 😉
The way things are going I’m just gonna take my kits down to the bus shelter beside the local A&E 😉
A cool idea for a future comp could be “design a safety poster for Beasts Of War… accident free since Thursday”.
Maybe if could be one of those electronic signs like the ‘now serving’ ones changed to show how many days since last accident. It will probably just stay 00. 🙂
Happy Sunday!
this is Aiming at Warren….. there are a lot of clippers that are made just for plastic and cheaper then what gw have you offer …look for it at scale model store.. now most of them are Japanese product sine they do have a HUGE market over there they even have company that only make tools ,,,here is some thing that you may need to consider getting http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10254553 this one may be for people that a bit more demanding http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10189440 and this is for the rest of is mortals… http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10309558 just excuse the packaging ..
Those look almost exactly like what I have already orders of eBay 🙂
I will report back!
did you look at link 1 price tag 😛 it maker gw’s clipper looks like its from the discount bin
Incredible lol but that’s hobbies for you, I wonder if they are targeted at smaller hands.
I used a pair of the fancy GW clippers and I liked them, but before committing to a pair of those I thought we should try an alternative or two first 🙂
i be getting some tamiya clippers soon well i am in Asia so the price may just not be that bad .. there a warning label some way that say tamiya clippers are not to be use on cutting metal .. really need to keep that in mind
Swear by the cheap clippers I got from CPC brilliant for electronics although I have a new favourite I got from a beading shop cutting head at a 60 degree angle can get into places I never would have thought clippers could get into! Only cost a fiver to boot! Actually beading shops are a brilliant source of hobby supplies glass beads make excellent paint agitators and I could get 100 for £1 just drop in a pot and shake before use. The stiff wire they sell is great for pinning and comes in handy lengths like 100mm or 150mm… Read more »
I swear by my clippers from Tamiya. I too cut myself to the point of “#### this”.
Are you kidding me? That packaging is a selling point as far as I’m concerned!
Happy Sunday 🙂
a word about clippers, if you want clippers that don’t leave a ( lugg) look for an itom called FLUSH CUTTERS .
about the the tray silicon only stick to silicon … teflon had silicon in it …. you sir have pick the only thing that RTV stick to … as for salvaging …the pan is done for.. what you can salvage is the scinic base that trap in the pan … get a art knife and try to cut and dig it out .. as for nomal metal tray yes it will work but you still have a hard time pulling it out as it will be vaccum shut in you need to get in to cave man mode to pull… Read more »
Would an application of Mac Wax before the pour made any difference do you think?
i use vaseline petroleum jelly i have not try wax but for what i know ( not tested) it will work but sine you are using a pan that you can’t open from the side you going to need to Dig it out. so a little brute force is needed at 1st
Just thought of something pretty easy you could do (next time): use tinfoil to line the baking tray. Whether or not the silicon sticks to it, it should at least be easy to pick the slab out of the baking tray.
Or waxed paper or baking parchment paper.
You might try freezing the tray over night, then quickly heat it up in hot water. The metal should expand faster than the RTV and that might release it. Just a thought. I have not tried it.
I second the Lego idea. Seen it done, works well.
AFAIK Nickel oxide is the only substance that will bond RTV to Teflon, better find out how you did it and patent it.
Hey Warren, Happy Sunday. You may have already tried this, but either heat the pan with an hair dryer or maybe boil some water and set the tray in it. Hopefully that will at least you some space to pull the rubber out.
Nice choice of cover picture @lloyd lol
Way to be a good brother eh 😉
@warzan, lol I just thought I would beat @deaddave to the funny still moment this week 🙂
No fair 😛
You can get rubbery baking trays, would they be a better idea? The flex would certainly be better at getting it out if it worked.
if the rubber tray is made of silicon rubber then NO it will bond and unable to open .. now will you consider them aluminum foil cake tray ?
That’s a cool idea. I think only Warren could get this frustrated about a spend gone wrong at Pound land. 🙂
To be fair, it was the RTV loss (and some caffeinated coffee accidentally drunk) that animated me 😉
I know Warren. But can’t resist pulling your leg a bit about it. Now had you used one of Andreas top of the line baking trays “just for a minute hon”, this could have turned hilarious.
accidentally?
My old mate Reg wrote up about his experiences as a tank driver in WW2.

IP wise, I wonder who could you be on about @warzan
Ooooooeeeeeeeeeoooooooo!
Regarding Battle of the Boyne, Front Rank, Warfare Miniatures and North Star all do figures that would be suitable. Front Rank’s King Billy is a lovely sculpt as is the King James.
There are a lot of interesting periods that would be interesting to game in Irish History, the Irish Civil War, United Irishmen rebellion, the Tudor Nine Year War in Ireland and Clontarf.
happy sunday
The voice-over guy on WQ was used by them on their recent GoT 2nd ed video and buy CMoN on their Wrath of Kings videos.

I have all the Dungeons and Dragons board games, Castle Ravenloft, The Legend of Drizzt, The Wrath of Ashardalon and the new Temple of Elemental Evil, and I think they are awesome! It might be that because I was a D&D players before I played war-games/miniatures games but I really like them.
For those wondering…here’s Matt Berry…

I bought that big The Others mini at GenCon last year –
http://www.beastsofwar.com/events/gen-con/gen-con-2014-experience-part-1/
I’ve been waiting for the game for a while now.
The voice in that video wasn’t the Matt Berry I know… I’m thinking of the comedian who was in Mighty Boosh, IT Crowd and Garth Marangy. The voice definitely wasn’t him =(.
Also, I use plastic takeaway boxes for casting. The beauty of it is, you can store the mold in the box with the lid on after use. Keeps them from drying out.
I think the point was rather that it sounded like his exaggerated comedy voice rather than it was him.
Yup I didn’t mean it was actually him 🙂
Funnily the Head of IT where I work speaks a bit like Matt Berry …lol
could you not line the tray with cling film of silver foil?
@warzan you know there is a way to do the battle of the Boyne and make it look cool…….
6MM…. as all true believers know its the only proper scale out there;-)
Do the minis exist?
The period of the Boyne many of the uniforms were similar to those used 14 years later at Blenhiem so Baccus do the Early 18th Century range and Heroics and Ros do the Malborough so I would say yes they do and at 6mm the tiny detail differences would not be significant.
Teflon and RTV are both silicone products ? I use the Lego option and superglue the bases to MDF then spray them with GW (or other similar) varnish to seal it.
For Battle of the Boyne I think 1 would go 10mm with Pendraken. It’s not a big battle so for 28mm have a look at

For Pendraken

In regards to cuttings yourself remember it’s blunt blades that hurt people, not sharp ones.
I’ve never been hurt by a spoon, and I use that to cut various puddings.
Sharp knife blades are less likely to slip than ones that are blunting. Obviously if they are completely blunt then they might not cut at all.
