Avalon Hill's popular traitor-based horror board game, Betrayal At House On The Hill, is getting a 3rd Edition via Hasbro Pulse. Ghost hunters and spook-sleuths are going to be able to dive into a whole new set of haunts.

Betrayal At House On The Hill - Avalon Hill

For those who haven't played Betrayal At House On The Hill, the game starts with all players taking on the role of explorers. You dive into the modular "House On The Hill" and explore a plethora of different rooms as you seek to uncover the mysteries that await. As the tension ramps up, a Haunt will begin about halfway through the game and someone (although sometimes the game itself) becomes the Traitor. Play then switches from a cooperative experience to a one-versus-many game as you try and survive the Haunt!

Betrayal At House On The Hill Explorer - Avalon Hill

The original game came with a massive set of different Haunts that could pop up throughout the house and it seems like the same is the case here. There are, once again, fifty Haunts for you to dive into that offer up a variety of challenges.

It also looks like the components have received quite an upgrade. The original game came out what feels like a billion years ago and so it had some slightly wonky game components! The advent of modern technology now looks to be introducing more detailed character sculpts, game tiles and cards. It's nice to see the art updated across the tiles too.

Betrayal At House On The Hill Gameplay - Avalon Hill

I'm a big fan of Betrayal At House On The Hill. I think it's a solid board game that offers up plenty of fun experiences on the tabletop. Some Haunts are decidedly better than others and the way they are triggered can make the difference between a great finale and a ho-hum one but I think the game has managed to stand the test of time.

Would it be worth picking this up if you already own the game? Probably not. It is nice to see it getting updated though so newcomers to the game can dive into this rather unique experience.

Are you tempted to give this a go?
