Asmodee & Fantasy Flight Games Are Combining Forces!

Big news in the gaming industry today as Asmodee Group and Fantasy Flight Games announced that they will be merging the two companies!
Both companies will continue to run their existing games under current logos but will reap the benefits of each other's strong suits. Asmodee will gain access to the strong sales and marketing structure of Fantasy Flight in North America as well as their nearly 20 years of expertise in the game development. Conversely, Fantasy Flight will find themselves enjoying Asmodee's distribution and marketing reach in Europe, which will mean better product placement and organized game play across the continent.
What would you like to see from a merger of these 2 powerhouses?

That is really interesting. While i like my FFG games, the German partner (Heidelberger) was always bugging me a little bit. Main criticism is the availability and price of the original version games on the german market compared to the localised version.
Now, according to Heidelberger, localisation stays with them, but i guess marketing of the original version will fall to Asmodee. I hope this is good news in this regard.
I wonder what the company structure will be like?
Are they now one company or is it just that each will take over the distribution of the other in their own markets?
It seems as if Amsodee has absorbed FFG, who in turn will continue as an independent publisher as part of the Asmodee Group. FFG will continue to do everything in-house as they have been doing, Christian Peterson will remain the CEO of FFG, they’ll remain in Minnesota and have the same staff. Some Asmodee games might be transferred to the FFG brand if they fit better there. Other than the changes, for the moment at least, seem to primarily with international distribution.

I admit to have never having heard of Asmodee before, but this seems to be people looking to make money off th back of the new Star Wars films and getting everything in place hoping for an upsurge in sales following the films release
They’re a very successful French publisher of tabletop games, mainly board games. They were valued at e143 million at the start of the year. I suspect this is exactly what it looks like, a foot in each others marketplace.

But you may have heard of or even played “Ticket to Ride” from Days of Wonder, who are also part of the Asmodee group. They have a lot of experience in developing and promoting boardgames. And they always have a great booth at the SPIEL in Essen. We’ll see what that’s good for.
I am not a huge boardgamer. I used to play a lot of the old SPI, Avalon Hill and Yaquinto stuff but it has all fallen by the wayside over the last 25 years

Well the boardgame industry is getting pretty saturated right now – maybe it faces a crash…smaller publishers will fail…larger ones will survive…
According to BoardGameGeek, FFG’s CEO Chris Petersen said this merger has been talked about on and off since 2010. FFG will continue to publish under their logo, but some of their games may shift over to other companies which are part of Asmodee if deemed more appropriate for that company. The thing I’m excited about is FFG having a bigger presence in Europe. Asmodee have several brands that are often present at Euro shows like SPIEL, such as Days of Wonder.
