Asmodee Digital brings Tabletop Gaming to the Nintendo Switch
September 14, 2018 by cassn
Get excited, as the greatest alliance since Daenerys and John finally got down and dirty is arriving in time for Christmas. Asmodee Digital have announced that they will be expanding their digital board game reach across to the Nintendo Switch.
In a press release yesterday Philippe Dao, CMO of Asmodee Digital, stated;
“Bringing our most popular titles to new platforms is a no-brainer, but we’re going a step above to make sure they are optimized for Nintendo Switch...The new audiences that await us on this platform are clear to us, and we’re glad to offer them the best of board games.”
Five games have been mentioned for digital release on the Nintendo gaming platform; Carcassonne, The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game, Pandemic, Catan, and Munchkin, with Carcassonne being released this Christmas.
This is a pretty exciting move by Asmodee Digital. The Nintendo Switch feels like the perfect console for digital tabletop gaming - portable and user-friendly. Furthermore, the timing of a Christmas release means that the classic post-Christmas board game can move to a digital format - a move which benefits Asmodee Digital, Nintendo and Carcassonne as young and old alike come together to play.
While there are only five releases so far, if even one of those of those achieves mainstream success, then this alliance will have been worth it. I'm hoping to see further releases as well - Ticket to Ride, for example!
What game would you like to see released on the Switch?

Nice to see more digital game’s shame its on the switch.
All of these and more are already available on iOS, Android and the PC via Steam. These are simply ports of games already available on other platforms. The Switch is hot right now so this makes sense for sales.
I don’t think the LotR game is on anything apart from PC yet (and even then its only Early Access – its fun though), but yeah, the board game ports are available on several formats. They’re good fun too!
Excellent news. Hopefully this will broaden the appeal of these games even further.
People who are hard core digital gamers are not going to switch to card board games. However, cardboard gamer who cannot find a friend or two to play one evening will have an better option to play solo. This will not move the needle for more people into board games. There has already been a lot of new people coming to board games but it has not been because of digital versions but more because many people wish to disconnect from digital devices.
