Ares Games Offer Up New War Of The Ring Board Game Accessories
November 30, 2022 by brennon
Ares Games has been talking about some new board game accessories that are on the way for those enjoying War Of The Ring: Second Edition. The first of these accessories could be one that everyone picks up, the Deluxe Game Mat.

The War Of The Ring Deluxe Game Mat does what it says on the tin. It provides you with 50% more space to play than the regular game board which means that names and other details shouldn't get obscured by your game pieces. It looks really nice and matches the look and feel of the Anniversary Release board.
The second of the accessories is something to make your collection (and cards specifically) look very fancy. You can pick up the War Of The Ring Witch King Card Box & Sleeves.

This has been designed to keep all your cards in one place and protected with the aid of sleeves. You get 120 card protectors and the tin box which features artwork of the Witch-King by John Howe. There are also tins featuring Theoden and Gandalf The Grey if you'd prefer to step away from the forces of evil!
With a lot of people still playing War Of The Ring as one of their event games, it's neat to see updated and tweaked accessories still making an appearance from Ares Games. I'm sure there will be a lot of folks snapping these up from 2nd December and in the weeks following.
Are you tempted by these new accessories for the War Of The Ring?

Is the game any good? That’s a sumptuous map.
It is good. A bit of an intense two-player affair although you can play with four. I think it works best with two though.
It will certainly take over your day though. Best to sit down and get all the tea and biscuits in for this one. It’s a very good way of replicating the War Of The Ring though BUT I would say also keep your eye out for the War Of The Ring: The Card Game which does a good job too and in much less time. Depends what style of game you’re into!
I played it once with two 5hr sessions. It is very engaging but also tiring at the same time. It is not something you will play often, maybe once a year at most. I prefer the ‘Battle of Five Armies’ from the same publisher. I have this and it can be played within two hours if you know what you are doing and maybe three if it is your first time playing. The problem with BOFA is that it can become repetitive very quickly, unlike WOTR which has more options of play and expansions. I bought BOFA because my friend… Read more »
I picked up first edition at UK Games Expo and upgraded to 2nd edition with the bigger cards. Played it a couple of times, but it does take a long time… Eldritch Horror kind of long time… so you need 4 hours really. Added a couple of expansions, but never got to use them as this thing called covid screwed up things with my wargaming buddy. Now it gathers dust with a Star Wars Rebellion which takes a similar amount of time… at least I can play Eldritch Horror solo if get 4 hrs spare. It is a nice looking… Read more »
