A Game Where You Can Justifiably Wear the Box On Your Head
December 3, 2018 by ludicryan
This is one board game adaptation that has kept us waiting. Konami have let loose the Diamond Dogs of war and are bringing Metal Gear Solid to the tabletop with IDW Games!
Announced on twitter and at PAX Unplugged it's being designed by Emerson Matsuuchi whose previous games include Century: Spice Road, Reef and, most importantly for stealth game fans, Specter Ops and its expansion Broken Covenant. Many in the office can attest to Reef's ingenuity as it feels like a combination between the objective grabbing mechanics of Takenoko and how it feels to plan and place tiles in Azul.
The secret unit movement of Specter Ops is a good development from games like Scotland Yard and Letters From Whitechapel which makes the prospect of a Metal Gear Solid board game quite tantalising.
It's unknown at this point what scenario the board game is going to adapt whether it's the Shadow Moses incident from the first Metal Gear Solid or the Big Shell Incident from the second instalment. It's likely to be the former which begs many questions: will we get amazing dialogue on how exhilarating it is to reload revolvers? Can I fight a raven tattooed man and his pet tank? How are we going to switch the controller ports to defeat Psycho Mantis?
The game will sneak onto shelves sometime in 2019.
Snake? SNAKE!? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!

Interesting.
The only reason I don’t wear other game boxes on my head, is because none of them are big enough to contain my gargantuan dome.
I would have been VERY excited about this, but given that IDW has announced that ninja division is working on their other two board games they announced recently, I’m not touching this with a 10 foot pole.
