Warhammer World Hosting Blood Bowl Bugman’s XXXXXX League
January 28, 2016 by brennon
Warhammer World, to celebrate the return of Blood Bowl to the pitch from Games Workshop, have decided to put on the Bugman's XXXXXX League Cup which will run over the weekend of May 21st and 22nd 2016...
You will be playing five games with a team (made of GW miniatures) worth 1,300,000 gold pieces with a slightly tweaked version of the Blood Bowl rules for 2016 to make it fun for players to get involved.
- Higher starting gold pieces count to allow for greater variety to teams.
- Star Players can be bought as part of your team
- No players actually killed or can miss games – means you have your whole team all weekend.
- Bugman’s Sponsorship available for one of your players.
- One player of your choice earns one skill every game, guaranteed.
- No need to record Star Player Points, expenses, treasury etc; very simple league play.
- League Points earned for Completions, Touchdowns, Casualties, Interceptions and Players Sent Off for Fouling. Whether you win the games doesn’t actually matter…
This sounds like its going to be a fun and engaging weekend for Blood Bowl fans who will be dusting off those old miniatures and getting stuck in.
Now...if only I could remember how to play properly! The video games do all my working out for me!

Well, at least they are starting with a ruleset written by one of the few veteran game designer they still have in house….
If only I still had my bike! I love BB. Best game wacoshop ever made.
Second best spacehulk all the way bb ties for second place with wh:quest and necromunda for me, really need to give infinity another bash…
…yes you do!
Richard Halliwell and Jervis Johnson’s masterpieces respectively. I have issues with each now that I didn’t have in the 80s and 90s, both because they were at the cutting edge of games design at the time and because there wasn’t anyone else doing big box minis games to compete. Of the two, Space Hulk has fared the worst in my eyes. It’s a great game if you’re the Space Marine player, not so much if you’re the Genestealer player. An AI could play the Genestealers just as effectively. With the proliferation of high quality minis boardgames in recent years it’s… Read more »
I agree @redben but its the game i keep going back to, much like i go back to the original sonic the hedgehog, its still fun, its of its time, and my god have i had a lot of fun playing it for 20+ years 😀 Dunno how space hulk would go down with people who never played it before and are used to modern game mechanics but if you have a group of mates who have played each other since we were kids it takes some beating even if its just for nostalgia and remembering stupid things we did… Read more »
Must be bittersweet for those with 3rd party teams, due to gw not previously supporting the system
Yeah. I’m really not sure if this’ll be great for their business or poor.
anything that grows the customer base should be mutually beneficial to all.
Even though the fact that GW will support the game with official teams and what not will stop alot of players from buying third party minis, the overall increase in numbers of players should still result in more sales for the third party mini makers. Especially since so many of the third party minis are so nice.
For some, it can only be a benefit.
For example http://www.ff-fields.com/ may very well see an uptick with the number of people wanting their own kind of board (I bought and am very pleased with a Skaven one they produced).
We’ve no idea which teams GW are going to release as well; there’s got to be 30+ teams with rules, so I imagine some of the 3rd party teams may carry on being the only ones that exist.
You’ve also got minis that have their own spin on things such as Greebo’s ninja goblins team.
Now that’s awesome. Blood Bowl deserves some love from GW.
Hey Brennon, play is really simple: the other team cannot score if all their players are knock out 😀 Just need to gang on the pesky elves before they jump all over and score in one turn.
I wonder if FW will bring 1st ed. stars, would love to see Galak Starscraper model.
An out of date ruleset and a tournament format which means the person who wins the most games won’t necessarily win the tournament. Add to that GW’s refusal to engage (thus far) with the people who have supported and grown the game in their absence. It’s not the most promising of (re)starts for Blood Bowl

……Really that favours some teams over others and won’t the ideal result for both players be 8-8 in TDs with 16 Casaulties each.
@Nicklaus, if winning was scoring 1 touchdown and then blockading a ball with a cage then that ‘winning’ been thrown out the door I applaud.
Winning by actually playing the game and not a cheesy rule exploit tactic can only be good for the game gets my vote.
The 2-1 grind tactic in Blood Bowl is far more complex than that and isn’t in the slightest a ‘cheesy rule exploit’. Blood Bowl is primarily a game of risk management and the cage and grind strategy minimises risk. If that bothers you, I suggest you look at a different hobby because ‘cheesy rule exploits’ exist in every game system
@dazlamb depends what points offset that for passes/interceptions/fouling
In Warmaster and Warmaster ancients there was a cheesy rule called the dairylea triangle where people put their 3 stands in a block so they they could all fire. Priestley just re wrote the rule so this was no longer allowed
Everything can be fixed
Thing is, the cage in BB is a perfectly legitimate tactic, in fact teams like Dwarfs need to cage because they don’t have the speed to play any other way.
I can understand why some people find it frustrating to play against, but it doesn’t break the game. Of course if you play goblins you can just chainsaw your way through the cage!
Well all seems interesting just hauled out my Skaven team for a few warm up games before our club league gets going. Not sure why anyone has an issue with the cage tactic it works but it can be broken easily enough if you know how to play the game. Its actually a tactic that has been used since the second edition of the game. Anyway as Skaven player one just uses agility and strategic hits to win the game:-) The one thing I am curious about though is that Bloodbowl is set in the warhamner world which no longer… Read more »
I’m cautiously optimistic about the new Blood Bowl. I’ve been a player for many, many years and I’m interested to see what GW do with it. I just hope that they engage with the NAF, since they’re the people who have supported and grown the game in Workshop’s absence.
Strictly speaking the BB world wasn’t the Warhammer world, more of a parallel.
