The Reikland Reavers & A Blood Bowl Ogre Hit The Pitch From Games Workshop
February 25, 2017 by brennon
Released onto their webstore for pre-order this week Games Workshop has a new release and another which has escaped the confines of its Starter Box. Here we have the new Blood Bowl Ogre...
While not entirely reliable half the time when an Ogre does actually get to hit something they usually make sure it stays down. This big bruiser is for those who want a good line defence as you set up. Maybe with a few extra skills, you'll be able to stamp out the bad behaviour and he could become a star player in his own right.
My best Blood Bowl team was known as the Ostland Ogres and in their first game a Black Orc killed my Ogre...so, it took a while to save up for a new one but they eventually got back their reputation!
Reikland Reavers
The Human Team from the main boxed game is also now available for you to buy separately.
In the set you get all your Linesmen, Blitzers, Throwers and Catchers allowing you to add to an existing roster or simply start a new team instead. I really like the models you got in the box, even if some didn't. All they need are a few extra accessories and they'll be on their way to becoming an individual looking team.
I wonder how long it's going to be until we see the Norse...
Have you been drawn in by Blood Bowl?

Well I love the big ugly b#$$%$ and already have him on order.
I really like the ogre, that’s a very dynamic looking sculpt, someone ( or something ) is about to have a very bad day.
That is very nice looking ogre.
I like the ogre. Looks like GW may have finally hired an artist. First, the dynamic movement on those demi-gryphs recently, and now this. I’m not willing to pay £12 of course, but it’s another step in the right direction.
Of course…
What would you consider reasonably priced for an ogre sized miniature?
Purely out of interest, as to me £12 isn’t too bad.
Similar GW (and other manufacturers like PP, Wyrd) character minis are usually north of £20. Other comparable “fantasy football” ogres are around the £12-15 mark for the most part.
I’d say about half that price @lunchbox . Not an entirely fair comparison, but I recently bought a dozen Reaper Bones ogres for $3.49 each. They are a great figure, sculpted by Tre Manor, and while the material may not be up to some people’s standards, the ease of conversion more than makes up for it.
Well, thankfully every man is, outside of womanly intervention, the keeper of his own wallet. Even Mantic charge £10 for an Ogre character mini so you’re pretty much stuck with Reaper Bones for your budget.
As much as I love the Reaper Bones series, and own tons of them to use for D&D mooks, you are right in that there really is no comparison in terms of quality.
You forgot to mention: the Mantic ogres look like sh*t. 🙂
In Canada this is going for $25 and for a single model that is cheap for GW. Most go for between $30 to $50, depending on it’s size, role it plays and the likelihood of people buying multiples of the model. I in all honesty was expecting this to be in the higher end of the price range.
Ogre looks fantastic!
Although I like the general look of the new Reikland Reavers, those are simply uninspired poses…shame really.
a great looking ogre/ogryn.
Very cool, nice to see a plastic one from GW itslef and not forge world.
Love the Ogre, the other players kinda boring.
Just re-read the article and caught Ben’s comment at the bottom (Sorry Ben I tend to skim…..Your words are important to me though … honest …. I am scum)
Yes the Norse would be nice but I am particularly waiting for in order i) The Halflings 2) The Chaos Dwarfs and 3) the Amazons ……(Oh and that Death roller mini … but at least I’ll see that this year)
I was surprised at how good the Willeys Amazons are. For a smaller company working in metal they are a pretty dynamic looking team
Ogre is nice, but the Human team? Was really let down when I first saw them (what with the “jazz hands” pose), one of GW’s poorer efforts. The details are nice but the posing is very poor (almost as bad as the Dwarf Team’s “beard dancers”. Dunno whats going on with GW, the latest releases are a real mixed bag. All great in execution of detail for plastic figures, but let down on the basics of posing. Its almost like they are trying too hard to bring out a unique pose never done before, but the efforts just leave me… Read more »
Oh, completely forgot – ‘Norse, Norse, Norse, Norse. We want our Norse, Norse. Give us our Norse, Norse. Norse, Norse, Norse, Norse. Norse, Norse, Norse, Norse.’ – you get the idea…
(Funny how ‘Norse’ sounds rrrreeeeaaaaaally strange when you do that)
Ogre is a nice mini, be interested to see the troll. Next up is Orcs I think then Deathroller, plus I think Griff before end of march. Goblins in April which is when the troll is due I believe.
Waiting on the resin position packs to expand I think a bit more variety would be good.
The Ogre looks great. Would love to see him standing next to a normal player for size comparison.
As someone that played BBowl extensively, I find it hard to reconcile buying a human team with only 2 blitzers. The box should be renamed to “the incomplete Reikland Reavers”..
Not any different to any of the old BB teams. None of them were complete teams with all positionals. Human team in metal had only 3 blitzers, 1 thrower and 2 catchers. Chaos team had only 3 warriors etc.
Just wish they would do the “missing” minis in blister packs.
True. I guess I thought they would have learned by now. 🙂
There were rumours that Forge World would release blisters that would fill up the missing positions from the boxed sets;
eg: the human team doesn’t have the full quota of Blitzers; the Skaven team is lacking 2 gutter runners, etc…
Supposedly resin, so different models but in the same style…etc…whether that’s true or not, I dunno.
@fleetey that is what Mr Hewitt said to be at the open day in Jan, although seemed more like a set of 4 minis rather than a complete fill out the roster pack.
Dark Elves any time now GW.
Am I the only one who thinks the BB stuff generally just looks awful? These are no exception.
Well “awful” seems harsh but I imagine you are not completely alone with your general sentiment. 😀
I would say the humans are the weakest kit as of this release. The odd poses they have with both arms out with fists is cringe worthy as well as the arms look short for some reason. Compare them with the orcs that come in the same box set, I see them as night and day. The other 3 plastic teams are nice overall in my opinion, for what little its worth.
That is a fantastic Ogre.
