Brand New Battle Foam SHIELD Bag!
September 16, 2011 by beerogre
With all these amazing miniatures in your collection, you’re going to need something to carry them in.
Well Battle Foam are set to launch yet another of their innovative carrying bags, called the SHIELD.
This design is much more affordable, comes in a modern, military-grey colour scheme and is specially constructed to fit the standard sized miniatures trays found throughout the industry, including things like Games Workshop trays. However, it doesn't come with the rigid sides like the PACK, so you'll need to be a bit more careful with it.
This bag is being pitched at the gamer on a budget, so it's more inexpensive than some of the bigger PACK bags that BF make.
The standard load out has:
- 1x 55 Troop Foam Tray - 1.5 inch (38 mm) thick with 44x 1 x 1 1/2 inch (25 x 38 mm) cut outs and 11x 2 1/2 x 1 inch (64 x 25 mm) cut outs.
- 1x 29 Large Model Troop Foam Tray - 1.5 inch (38 mm) thick with 24x 2 x 1 3/4 inch (51 x 44 mm) cut outs and 5x 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch (64 x 38 mm) cut outs.
- 1x 4 Inch Pluck Foam Tray
- 3x Foam Toppers
But remember, if you have a customised or converted model that just won't fit into a standard tray, Battle Foam can custom cut you a tray to carry it... just check out the Custom Tray Designer on their website for details.

That info is awfully vague. It looks like it fits two sabol sized trays side by side, but they might mean gw case trays by industry standard. Are the sides reinforced like most battlefoam bags?
It looks like a great alternative to the armytransport armored company bag, but I hope it is higher quality or lower cost, ’cause that thing is pricy.
I’ve added a bit more info…
Im not sure of the nameing.
If they wanted the whole shield aspect, the Batfink bag would have been a better option.
I’m assuming its a battlefoam quality bag designed to take GW sized trays , which is a good idea , I like the understated colour too, greens nice, grey is better.
Right… so what’s different about this bag?
It sleeps with your girlfriend and drinks all your beer while you’re at work!
It’s probably the best bag ever made.
Surely if its called the shield then is should have reinforced sides like the other BF bags, however not having the reinforcement is probably what brings the price of it down. Its great for its purpose, a gamer on a budget but i just think its badly named. Also i like their new website, very nice, its similar to the BOW site. Anyway im tempted by this bag, simply by the price though
Sabol’s Platoon is of pretty much the same outter dimensions and about 10 bucks cheaper.
what is the size of that nice front pocket and what could you fit in it? Doesent look like you could get beer in it like th other bag you video reviewed but could you get a hip flask of rotgut in it?
Looks nice, any word on the pricing? I doubt it’ll be in my budget, but if it is…
You know… Battle Foam bags and packs would be a hell of a lot more apealing if they’d stop putting those bloody stupid big logo badges on them.
Its £27.60 (inc VAT)
A smart move from Romeo. While I love the PACK stuff I also understand that a lot of people cannot justify spending that kind of money to transport/store their models. This is the first product that directly competes with the possibly the best known player on the market, Sabol. The name does not really bother me, I more concerned with function. BF just need to to allow a fully customised loadout. The standard is a OK generic setup, but the real deal clincher will be being able to fully stack one of these as you want. As it is BF… Read more »
Hi Blitzr, we actually do offer custom trays for The Shield bag already. They can be ordered from the US or UK warehouses. It’s not a bundle because we needed to keep the cost down. The most expensive part of what we do is the custom work. If we did a custom load out bundle it would raise the price point and take away from the point of the bag. Keep in mind that you still have the lifetime warranty on the foam trays and the 1 year warranty on the bag. That is a huge benefit above the other… Read more »
Hi Romeo. I’m just mapping a few things out now, so expect an order in the next few weeks. It looks like I need to expand my current stowage for my FOW collection…..it has just started to outgrow the PACK 720 and 432 I have it in. My WM has exceeded the PP bag I have for it, so I’m considering a custom load out PACK Air. My Hordes collection can then move into the PP bag. After all of that, I have my growing 28mm WWII stuff. I have a couple of unused Sabol cases laying around (Platoons), but… Read more »
