Victory! First! 😀
Up at quarter to six (for work I hasten to add) and I’m still not first. God damn it Leeroy.
I need to stay up later to fight you for the right sir.
Happy Sunday!!!
I’ve thrown the homework in the corner, gotten some painting done (experimenting with iridescent paints, a four layer turquoise paint job on power armor and galaxy technique on a cloak). Now it’s 2 am and time for sleep. 😀
All in all, a great end/start to the day.
Thanks Lads. Happy Sunday to you all. I am going to spend a bit of time going over your Saga 2 discussion later as I am interested in what you have to say. Cheers and I hope you all enjoy the balance of your weekend
Can’t wait for the new Saga. Like Gerry I have far too many Irish including Irish cavalry (which are very easily killed, particularly by crossbow wielding Normans). I drifted into Norse-Gael as well so that when I play rank and flank games they can easily grow into the army of Brian Boru or some such. The current Saga system is great but the multiple books (often out of print) is annoying. I’m looking forward to the various era books being put into one book each too.The Wisco Horndog is a great Saga resource too and he really helps get the… Read more »
Happy Sunday!!
Hobby time? Still working on myKD:M. Got a prologue and a couple of years in with a new group last night – now got to manage two parallel settlements… I think some technology assistance is in order.
So about Saga 2…
happy sunday, back to mb:p mini prep today
For your portable saga table, the best material would be foamboard, 10mm thick (you may even manage with 5mm). You can use it for the frame and the top, and when well braced its plenty strong enough while staying really light.
Its been used to make model railway baseboards, so it should be fine for us.
I think ill give this a go 🙂 bit might still want a wood frame for a quality look, stained and varnished.

easy to add wood effect to anything, just glue with gluegun or contact adhesive and trim with sharp blade.
Alternativly as im obsessed with the stuff…

Just cut with a miter block and you have a nice wood edges frame for the board to sit in
@nakchak – the Wickes Pine Angle Moulding could be cool. Don’t think I could be bothered with the laminate edging.
@lloyd the nice thing with the edging is that it take minutes and a craft knife to fit, v useful for basing too, if you get some of the stone effect work surface etc. but edging FTW!
Hmm, the only bad decision I see so far is that of small units generating dice. I reasoned that morale in the game was directly down to the player-general in that you would voluntarily retire depleted ineffective units to keep your dice, and the victor running them down which would be historically accurate, really disappointed in them removing this tactic from the game.
You can still chase them down. In fact it’s easier now, but they are no longer an effective unit and I think the loss of the dice shows that they have reached a level where they can’t be depended on to carry out orders or contribute effectively to the battle plan.
Happy Sunday guys, interesting to see one of the Saga miniatures brought to life, groomed and sitting next to Az today. Great work by all on their hobby projects: @brennon really enjoying the vibrant colours and I am wondering if you will be doing any scenery building to capture that animal/wind in the willows/hobbit style for a tabletop setting to tie in with the awesome minis? @lloyd that’s a sweet looking force dude, I think with some really great rules for the crusades and for a complete change of model style maybe an Arabian force with cavalry and infantry. The… Read more »
@noyjatat, thanks 🙂 I’d say im a sucker for armor and i think I would like to work on a force i can feild as one that could still look like they have a commonality between them if only to look like one army in say a fantasy battle if not in a historical one.
But gerry and I have chatted about it for the first crusade.
Cool buddy, well as you currently have no project in time to start building Rome. Apparently it wasn’t built in a day so take the week ;D
@noyjatat you could paint the boss first, and to be honest I may do that on some of the bucklers as long as you’re neat it’s not a massive strain to do them after. I wouldn’t stick straight to the bare metal, you could but you’d have strange silvery tones. Normally I varnish and then stick any decal down. Those 3 were a test to see if going onto the primed shields without varnish would make a difference. I’m happy to say it doesn’t so that will probably be the way forward. After all I’ve another 100 to do just… Read more »
LBMS recommend painting the shield white before applying the decals. I personally use Deck Tan by Vajello
I prefer ivory.
Early days but I like the sound of New Saga. Thumbs up from me.
@brennon this is the monthly painting sub box Az mentioned, if you would like to add it to the shows links list https://www.assetdrop.co/
you need to add flies on the buts of the cow 😉
@killraw not sure I want that much detail lol
@lloyd — for a flexible paint, see if you can find this http://createxcolors.com/airbrushcolors.html in the UK. I have used it on everything from T-Shirts to polycarbonate Radio Control Model Racing cars. The shells on the cars have to be flexible because when they crash they have to flex.
@turbocooler wow, that’s a lot of colour 🙂
Any particular products or are they all flexible?
Colorful cloth and vibrant dyes were really expensive back in the Norse and Varangian period. So if you had vibrant colorful clothes and a bright gaudy banner it meant you were a super successful wealthy warlord.
In a way, bright gaudy banners and wargear were a form of psy ops and smacktalk. Telling any enemy that you have so much money that you’re well fed, well paid and still have enough money for war-bling.
Actual dye is relatively cheap and people of the era would dress in pretty much the same colours we do. Sure some very specific colours were rare but most were available at any market.
Fancy Banner’s show that you are extremely rich because the richer you were the more skilled a weaver you would employ to make it. Yes they would have lot’s of bright, vibrant colour but that’s more of a personal choice than an issue of wealth.
One of the ‘regular’ Saga armies not on the new list is Strathclyde Welsh. Which also happens to be the army I just spent £100 buying 🙁
Maybe it will be one of the v2 options for A&A
Just for info Steve who runs LBMS is also one of the guys behind Victrix as well
Byzantines! Lloydy you could still have as Russ. Old WRG 4th edition army lists, allowed for aunit of Russ in later Byzantine armies pre Manzikert.
Great show even if a bit light on Saga content. I have been at Warfare in Reading all weekend with a participation game. I did manage to slip away to do a bit of shopping and look in on Gripping Beast who were running through the new rules. New rule is finished and is waiting for the first book, it is due to drop in February. A couple things to add to today’s show. When spending fatigue and using Saga abilities it is done one at a time alternately. When you close ranks you lose half your dice not all.… Read more »
that should read new rule book is finished and waiting for the first faction book
I need the links to the stone painting tutorial. Wasn’t it supposed to be in the show notes? Help!
From the man himself. I think it’s on this
https://youtu.be/uPThV0gOWpI
yea they put it on yesterdays instead. But that one is slightly more detailed, thanks @torros
I thought you needed a publicist. I have your path to stardom planned out
Levies are now Armour 4 the same as warriors. Everbody now has their base modified by the weapons they are carrying, bows etc -1.
During the alternating use of fatigue and abilities players can pass at any point. when both players pass consecutively the the bidding ends.
It’s been a great if somewhat long weekend and my memory recall is struggling to keep up.
it make me happy to see everyone getting the painting bug. especially good to see Az getting his zen moment. for black Az i’d go for a black base, midnight blue first highlight and then add an off white like ivory to the blue for a second highlight about 70/30 blue/ivory. then edge highlight by adding more ivory to the mix. at least that’s what i’d do. Ben and Lloyd are both better painters than they give themselves credit for. well done Lloyd for finishing your project and well done Ben for taking the plunge and upping your game, with… Read more »
Good point. I’ve got a box of gw undead staring at me :p
heheh@lloyd His bird is big 😀
Ben ma dużego ptaka hehehehh. its so wrong heheheh
Lol
the saga troops are looking fabulous, stick some card to the back will look better than sanding @Lloyd ?
Thanks @zorg 🙂
Not sure what you mean by “stick some card to the back”, the back of what?
the matting you were using sanding will that take an age to do. @Lloyd
