I’ve used soda once but was dissatisfied with how it turned out. Used the fantastic snow effect from Woodland Scenics after that – that worked much better for me.
I’ve never used it, just bought snow scatter and static grass. Obviously it is only for basing an army and would be cost prohibitive for a project this size.
I never have any luck with snow effects. I’ve tried both baking soda and the Army Painter snow, mixed with PVA, PVA + white paint or even the Vallejo water effect liquid. It always looks great when it’s wet but as soon as it dries, the liquid part of the mix recedes and it just leaves a thin white layer that looks like spilled flour (or.. baking soda!).
Good to see Rob in the studio and I can’t wait for the WZR videos. I’m hoping there will be some good tips on surviving early game Rapid Deployment spam!

@warzan I think you need a rest/holiday that’s the third illness you have had this year? the game is going to look brilliant guys.
AAAgh! Polystyrene squeak!
I tried basing my khador with bicarbonate of soda, my painting isnt great but I am happy with it

In the future,
there is only…rust.
The best snow effect I’ve found is the stuff that was sold by Basecraft but is now part of modeldisplayproducts.co.uk, they have a great range of basing kits, and the snow one is really good. Bicarb works well, but it is prone to discolour over time. Not a problem for the hoth board as it will be fine when in use though, and it is much, much cheaper than any other option. For the whole table, I’d look for bulk buys rather than buying a load of those £1 tubs, you can probably buy it in 1Kg or bigger bags… Read more »
My grandmother had a great cure for a cold. She’d heat up a nice mug of tea, drink it fast, and then refill the mug with scotch. I really don’t know if ever really helped her cold but she never complained about it.
Can’t wait for your Warzone stuff! I love that game so much!
WARZONE!!!
I’ve used baking soda back in the days when I did my Space Wolves army, as far I remember it was very cost effective and the end result was quite good, not Crystal Brush good of course, but served well for general gaming pieces.
Look after Rob and remind him to give Warzan his book…
i use vallejo snow and foam effect, but maybe it would be too expensive for a table that size
Another cold? Clearly you’re working too hard Warren and getting run down. Get some vitamin C inside you mate and early to bed!
Where did they get the sw minis from ?
warren. Get some rest man!
I use Snowtek.
