YES! I have waited a long time for this. I’ll be referencing this video and others to come in the near future for my Trollbloods. A big thank you to Romain.
I knowwww ! Right ?
So many people were requesting this… But there never was a proper miniature, or time… And we had to do more basic stuff first.
Still, now it’s done, and on quite a detailed miniature to boot, so it’ll be suitable for all sizes.
I may do more plaids and tweeds of need be, and if asked.
BoW Romain
Also I wish to extend out to you that yes it’s OK for you a french man to wear a kilt. In truth I find it a bit disheartening to see that what you said is what I find many men say about kilts. Many say “I’m not a Scott so I can’t wear one” but that’s far from true. I’m getting married soon and all my wedding party are going to be kilted. We have a Filipino, a Mauritian, Portuguese and a Saint Lucian all with kilts. I myself am Peruvian French mixed and am proud to wear a… Read more »
I didn’t say I wasn’t alowed to wear kilt, I said I wasn’t allowed to wear Tartan. I’m all for man skirts, but I don’t want to usurp anyone’s family’s pattern… There’s a difference ! 😉
Many congrats on your happy day, and a felicitous life with your beloved !
with 30 odd highlanders on my desktop right now this came as if by magic
Thanks !
Not magic, just BoW Justin @dignity !
I believe that the pattern of the kilt belongs to a certain group of families/area/regiment. There has however, been a tartan made for none eligible personnel or people who can not associate with a particular tartan, I think its the hunting stewart or something like that. There was something on the news about 10 years ago that there were some fancy ones being made to order. These mainly consisted of florescent pink latex etc. I am lead to believe that you may also design and register your own designs if you wish via the web I would not dream of… Read more »
The truth is there is a long history about the kilt, tartan and the family/clan names but there is a lot of false background. If you wish to wear a tartan whatever the “name” on it wear it. Today many groups use named tartans just because it looks good. For example, the Davidson clan tartan (my family name) is used often by the Canadian military. As for the online design-your-own tartan. It’s such a fun thing to do, even just to make your own look. If you go for your own custom tartan or a named tartan, don’t worry it… Read more »
Thanks for the precisions, @broadside ! @manpug should sue the Canadian army… I think money will get you everything, including a latex kilt or the “right” to a pattern, but that doesn’t mean it’s right to do so. I don’t have a clan or any type of celtic ancestry to the best of my knowledge, I won’t pretend I can have a tartan… In the same fashion, I find commoners who make their own “family crest” a tad ridiculous in this day and age. You either inherited one from medieval times, or you didn’t… Unless you are made a knight,… Read more »
LOL it’s always good to have an open mind. All in all I became a kilt lover due to the family that adopted me when I was a baby. My entire family minus me is Scottish that came to Canada where I was born. After my brothers wedding I fell in love with them.
To get back to your model painting tips, This is giving me the opportunity to once again express my love for the people that took me in. I’m very grateful for the videos you do. It’s taken me to a higher standard.
And quite the hommage it is, I’m sure.
I’m just glad Im’ being useful !
Nice to see the amount of prep put in to the base before you even start on the tartan design.
I have never been shown how to paint and it was interesting to see that I highlight cloth in the same way with very dilute paint.
One Question: What did you mean by Glaze?
Thanks for your kind words and your excellent question. It all comes down to the difference between a wash and a glaze, really… A wash is when you spread dilute paint over an area hoping the pigments will go in the creases and tint them more heavily. Thus, it is mainly used for shading. It works best with surfactant products such as pre-mixed washes, or quickshade (the famous “dip”), but most people (including me) just use water and regular paint. A glaze is when you use dilute paint over a surface in generally smaller quantity than a wash, taking care… Read more »
Yes thanks you did. I shall experiment, as there seems to be no right or wrong way and just go with what looks good on each figure.
Ok…
I just want to see the pictuires if you disguise wourself as a japanese school girl!
😉
I’ll like to be able to watch and learn how to do it, but the website won’t let me.

Fix it plz.
