What packages do the professionals use for sculpting?
If you are talking software then the most common will be Z-Brush, I imagine. It’s not exactly cheap though you can always try your hand at Sculptris. Sculptris has an odd history but for now, it is effectively the “light” version of Z-Brush and most importantly it is free.
I do hope that Pixologic finally release a proper PLE version of Z-Brush alongside version 5, though.
yep, Zbrush is king for 3D sculpting 😉
getting it was the best decision I ever made as far as sculpting goes 😉
being from a hand sculpting background, it feels very natural sculpting with a Wacom pen and Zbrush 😉
I highly recommend the program to anybody interested in sculpting 🙂
yeah, for me the way I learned how to sculpt minis was just from my own conversions 🙂
a new arm, a new head sculpt, a new weapon, etc 🙂
and then eventually I realized if you stick all these things together you get a whole new mini 😉 ha ha ha
Speaking of my article series, posted a little update for people on backstage 😉

And I do like my fighting vehicles 😛

(Not done much sculpting myself but used to draw and paint a lot and the principle is the same.) Because you know what a human looks like, you can judge whether or not you’re creating something that looks right. You can spot and learn from mistakes, you can practice and improve. And unless you know how to create the subject that everything else is compared to, it’s hard to get anything else to be believable. e.g. If you want to… Read more »
totally agree 🙂
it’s very important to learn the fundamentals of real human and animal anatomy 🙂
before trying to sculpt fantasy or sci fi creatures 🙂
if you know how muscle structure work on a real animal,
then it becomes much more easy to make animals that are not real 😉
