Interesting, I’ll pick me up some Poker dice while I wait for the notes!
Using poker dice is a really cool idea, but what about incorporating poker hands somehow? Bring in the bluffing aspect, not necessarily as a core combat mechanic, but having players compare poker hands at critical moments…like when you want to perform/block a special ability or a special action.
Cool, that’s what this whole process is about, getting ideas stuck in here and we can then debate them 😉
I’ll be putting up the first draft of the mechanics next week.
But it’s all about poker hands and making the best hand from a pool of dice… I don’t want to give the game away… but it’s very like Texas Hold ‘Em.
@beerogre that pretty well answers my question. Sounds exciting, cant wait to hear more. The poker mechanic has a lot of potential for hadrcore shenanigans.
I have an urge to Red Dead Redemption now…
The only way to prepare for this event is to stock up on cheap whiskey, chipped shot glasses, and old-timey piano music
Very cool and original idea using the poker dice and cards. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.
Sounds good- I’ll watch with interest.
I hope there is a charater called Cliff Westwood
There will be now!!!
😀
Just noticed how awful my spelling was in that post! *Character *Clint…..though Cliff is a cool name too lol
I prefer Cliff…slightly obscure but still an easy homage
special skill- do you feel lucky?
Good advises, there are always be people who do not like what you do mater what you do, so don’t try to please everyone.
From my experience, the complexity of the system should be inertly proportional (hope I translated that right) to the number of units involved, while precaution for the table space is given so that the game does not get cluttered with more models that it can support.
Hmmmmmmm liking the sound of this, western Infinity 😉
How dare you compare my original concept to any other game out there!!
It’s a Wild West… skirmish game… like no other skirmish game that’s not like it!
Haha sorry, was just dreaming out loud 🙂
Just imagine a game as good as Infinity (but completely different rules wise) set in the wild west? I just think Infinity is the best skirmish game out there at the minute so you have to try to be better 🙂
If you ever get to the minis stage please leave out the assless chaps character.
Cancel that sculptor!
We were hoping Tre Manor was going to make us a Justin with some assless chaps… but Justin wouldn’t pose for him. 🙁
Give Justin some more of that rice wine and see what happens.
Awww… I wanted an assless chaps character ! There’s cleavage, there should be asslessness…
BoW Romain
Excellent debate..i 100% agree- one persons vision, take input from others, try it and select what you like and best advice of all is K.I.S.S
As a comment, id prefer poker cards to dice (i have cards but would need to buy dice) but i see the joy of dice for many
I’d love to see a Sci Fi western…you know, humanity takes to the stars, the new wild west in space….standard wild west may be to historical based….yawn 🙂
if was called Firefly 😉
I’m John Wayne.
I’m only joking but if you make it 54mm we can go get a bag of cowboys and indians. Totally joking!
I like the the cowboy skirmish idea. But won’t it turn out as a one on one shoot out in the street? I like the idea of a cowboy battle like the movie OPEN RANGE with Kevin Costner.
is this gonna expand to wierd west at all?
Cool ideas. I’m digging the poker dice idea.
Some things I’d love to see if it’s a small scale skirmish game.
– Smoke from guns, maybe obscures line of sight a bit. The more you shoot, the harder it becomes to see.
– Reloading, since not all six-shooters fire more than 6 shots like in Hollywood.
– Bar fights, where one scenario for a game could take place in a saloon. Wild shenanigans ensue.
Looking forward to more!
All sounds like good advice, looking forward to seeing the first draft. I like the idea of keeping things simple, i have been playing 40k for about a year now and still don’t know the rules as well as i would like.
sooo, will it be “historical” wild west where a pistol could not hit a back more than 20 yards away or a Hollywood Western where Cliff Westwood (even in assless chaps) can shoot a gun from the bandit’s hand at 300 yards….
I suspect it will be a little more Hollywood 😉
Very interesting concept, looking forward to seeing the notes.
so good ive watched it again
Very, VERY intrigued! I’d vote for more towards the Hollywood/’Weird West’ idea, but I’m sure that people can muck about with their own settings as they see fit! Poker dice ordered… gimme them thar rules, pard! 😀
I’ll get some preliminary shots of the main mechanics and a sample character prepared for next week. 😉
:excited:
we used to play “once upon a time in the west” skirmish game.
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/14970/once-upon-a-time-in-the-west
Very detailed, almost too detailed, slowed down the action.
But great fun re-enacting all our fav movie scenes. The hearse ride to boot hill in mag7!
Looking forward to this, there are so many great minis out there.
Boot Hill rpg
Advertisements on a paid subscription??? Shame on you guys. 😉 I know you work hard, but perhaps once you have enough back stage subscriptions (say 1000) you could drop those.
I am interested to see where this goes.
