For anyone wondering… I don’t believe forgeworld are doing capillary towers now, if they are drop a link in the comments 🙂
Ohh and NICE SMILE JOHN!!!! @johnlyons
thats the look you get when a fleshborer bites….
indeed! lol
Was it school photo day at the BoW?
You guys did do a video tutorial on the blue paint scheme once. I have some half finished Tyranids sitting in my cabinet as proof of that. Don’t know if that video is still up.
And the table looks beautiful by the way. I’m somewhat tempted to go scratch build some capillary towers. Great things can be done with toilet roll tubes and liquid latex.
Hi @bucketknight It’s here: http://www.beastsofwar.com/backstage/speed-painting-tyranid-warriors/
Note this is the old video player so some people might have problems watching it on some devices (if so try on a PC with the Chrome browser).
Any chance on a tutorial on making the sandy rocks please?
Thanks
That terrain looks great, I’d never thought of running tone through an airbrush either. I also really dig the extra saturation on the tyranids though. I imagine perhaps a steady diet of ultramarines might end up dyeing the chitin over time 🙂
Okay who’s holding up the King Tiger tank miniature off camera to make the poor lad smile?
“You can play with your tanks, only if you finish your veggies!”
Very nice to see those Tyranid armies get some love in the form of infested terrain!
…And very nice to see my old green tyranid doing the catwalk on camera!!!…getting all nostalgic here to see them again!
Keep up the good work on all that terrain!
Cheers
Lasse
gorgeous colour. John is so good at taking on large projects, well done mate. fantastic looking result in record time. honestly think your the perfect painter for Warren, your man was positively beaming. you definitely need to repaint those armies to match now though. they look solid but that blue is just too good to ignore. don’t tell me John can’t teach you how to paint like that Warren mate. thought you’d changed the type of conventions you’d been attending for a minute there John when the T on your tank feast T-shirt went missing. well done Warren for dropping… Read more »
great job John i was not convince on jour red choice but when it dry out its looking fantastic.
Yay Ultranids survivors of the Ultramar invasion? @johnlyons
I’ve always been put off ‘nid armies because I don’t like painting that much organic material, but this looks extremely achievable so might have to reconsider it next time I decide to try another army, as the minis are very shiney.
John did a fantastic job on those. That turned into one amazing table.
I remember Nid week and it was the inspriation for my original Nid force.
When you said a Nid terrain board as desert and using the blue nids, my imediate thought was Dune :p
Very nice buddy!
Awesome guys, i love both those schemes.
You know how much i love the terrain you guys have been doing and you’ve now got me wanting to make a table for my nids!!
fyi, for 3D printed Capillary/Spore Towers…
AxoloteGaming recently published a set from their recent KickStarter:

their models are a little thinner and taller then the set I put together a while back:

Fantastic Video, loved it, great work @johnlyons. Please can we see an 8th edition Battle Report on it soon???
Simple and effective scheme. Great to watch a project from beginning to end like that. Thanks.
And seconded – since you have so many armies there, let’s see some 8th edition batreps!
This is a great job guys looks really nice 🙂 Love seeing the tables looking so awesome and cinematic! Would love to be playing on stuff like that.
Not a big ‘nid fan myself! like sticking bolt rounds into them though! Saying that they do have one of my favourite models of all time… the Lictor! Those things are just so so cool!
great job John! the board looks amazing. thanks for sharing the techniques.
Nids aren’t my thing but wow!!! that really came out amazing. Such a simple way to get a bunch done quickly and if you want you could do more later.
Top notch.
