Really nice so far, they are getting a strong Jacob Marley vibe. Glowing out of the ground is a great idea, although I still think some of the larger models have scope for a second glow source inside the ribs, to keep it quick thinking the airbrush will be the way to go for doing the light effects.
That drybrush really brought out the metal parts beautifully. Looking very much forward to seeing the ‘ground glow’ 🙂
Looking forward to the glow from the ground.
I like the idea of the glow coming out of the ground and flowing up into the eyes and face. It really tells the story of the dead coalescing up out of the ground and being filled with “dread power”.
Are you going to go with the sort of “radioactive glow-in-the-dark” light green? I think it gives a good evil power glow, rather than a more eldritch glow of a light blue.
Green glow all the way. I had thought of a blue, akin to the Litch King in World of Warcraft. But I doubt it would fit the “warmer” tones of the figures. So sickly/neon green would be the way to go.
the copper weapons gives the army a great primeval look.
really enjoying this vlog.
now the rust effect is done the “metal” looks great. are you going to age or weather the wooden parts? as the handles are looking clean and new. maybe stipple some of the basing material on to them or stipple some grey and white to look like mold, to break up the clean lines?
think the light effect from the base will make these models look epic.
I will have a look at the wooden details. What I tend to see is wood that’s been outside a while tends to have a bleached look. So perhaps adding a paler colour to it as a drybrush similar to the metal work may work too.
I’m interested that you don’t use any of the GW technicals John, such as Nihilakh Oxide (which works well as a more intense oxide highlight on rivets etc.) or the basing Texture paints (which are super quick). Curious if you have a view on them. A superthinned Nihilakh would work well on the glow – it’s duller than the other choices which might suit the grungy look (the AP turquoise with a glazing medium might also work).
This basing reminds me of a bog area, and I think that’s a damn good idea. Nice work John, nice work.
