As much as I love the Cool dark look from George Sealy, it incredible looking, I just think there are so many dark minis on tabletops. The bright, colourful nature of the game is what draws me into AoS. So for me it would be the GW scheme. But either will look fantastic.
Oddly enough, I tend to think of the GW scheme as dark, and my take a lighter version 🙂 Mainly because for me the dark cowls tend to fade into the background on a gaming table. That’s why I chose darker colours for the ghostly bits and lighter colours for the upper torso and “faces”. I agree though, seeing John’s take on either scheme (or something else entirely) will be fantastic.
I’m doing a lighter theme than the GW because I’m using some glow in the dark pigments. I mean, c’mon! The Nighthaunts need to glow!
EDIT: For the vote, not GW. We’ve seen that.
I vote for a Jon take on the George idea. Can you get that immediate visual impact but also have more to see when you get up close. As long as George doesn’t mind of course 😉
GW style. I like those more.
I really like George’s take on the Nighthaunt’s and the GW one is nice, I’d like to see something different @johnlyons we all know you can come up with something else.
That’s an option I would second 😀
I like George’s approach. The minis look fabulous but the more ethereal look of the GW theme drew my attention towards the Nighthaunt from the first moment I saw them.
So I vote for a GW-like theme.
Traditional.
@johnlyons thank you for the kind words! I’ll follow along with interest either way, can’t wait to see what you do with them!
I like George’s scheme
I vote for the GW scheme, will be of more use to majority of hobbyists.
Not really sure what scheme I would like to see more BUT I think a new/different riff on either should be what you are shooting for. Something your own, for the studio…maybe something like we have see before where they are glowing ghostly/ethereal.
I suggest doing something other than the GW scheme. There will be plenty of reference material and tutorials on the standard GW scheme, and I personally would prefer to see you do something different.
i would like to see you use Georgesealy scheme as a base but then use the gw technicals on smaller bits to add tiny “fire fly” effects to the models and or to pick out certain features ( like eye sockets) to add a more subtle glowy ethereal look.
As much as I love the GW nighthaunt scheme there are plenty of tutorials out there so lets see Georgesealy scheme!
why not paint them white, like casper?
I think you do a curve ball… pick your favourite Little pony, base the whole force on them
I vote for George Sealys scheme as a starting point. Interesting to see them with more details picked out. Sometimes I get the feeling that the figure producers put in more and more details into the minis and the painters generally paint less and less of said details…
great work on the horror john.
John, my only comment on this is one I frequently provide to people painting fire/energy. Fire is hotter (and thus whiter) at the center, and cooler (and redder) at the edges.
This, for this, the teeth area would be white, getting more red towards the back.
Otherwise I can look like cloth, not fire.
One of the nighthaunts should be painted up like an elderly version of Casper the ghost who is actually still 11 years old, just to confuse Justin.
I’d be interested to see the technical paints.
Too late for the voting (darn it RL!). But man, that fire spell turned out great.
love it, very Very VERY nice job.
