SPREAD THE WORD
Last years awards were fantastic fun and we would love to raise the bar even a little higher this year so please consider spreading the word on this via your social networks, blogs and forums (please don't spam though folks as we don't want to annoy anyone!)
***GET INVOLVED ON AWARDS NIGHT (An Evening in the Last Week of January 2016 - TBC)***
This year we are hoping to do something a bit more LIVE for awards night, and we'd love you all to get in the spirit, so we're thinking Global Awards Parties!!!! Yep we want you and your gaming groups to dress up all fancy and crack open some cheap champagne and join us on awards night - if you are up for it and have a web cam you could also appear on the shows!
We haven't worked all this out yet but we have a forum thread to discuss it and let us know if you are interested is here - oh go on you know you want to!!!
AND FINALLY, LETS THANK YOU GUYS
We're not joking when we say this community is the greatest in the world (even cooler than 4chan! 😉 probably...) and yes we know we are a tiny bit biased. Anyway, this year we wanted to give some shout outs to community members who you believe deserve a little bit of credit for being such good sports. If you would like to nominate someone who helped you or entertained you or any other (Publishable) reason, hit up the little form below. This is not a competitive thing, but a bit more like little paper knighthoods for those among us who bring a little something special the the community.
Get Stuck In!
Ok guys. lets have some fun with this and hopefully you can help us spread the word to other gamers (and the companies too!) that awards season is kicking off! I can't wait to see you all in your Suits, Tuxes, Dresses and Dickie Bows 😉
Did and done. I have been waiting for this.
done! can’t wait what you guys have planned for the award show. 🙂
do you have to nominate something in every category?
I nominated @caladors for his continued commitment in the What Are You Painting thread. Day in and day out he keeps the painting community moving.
Nominated @unclejimmy for his weekly “Unclejimmy Weekender” thread and @chrisg for his idea and inspiration on the WWDDC project back in April, May, and June.
…I nominate him too!
(I meant @unclejimmy too)
Done mine. Much harder this year, so many excellent games and models coming out all the time.
Nominated @Oriskany for an adult disagreement
Too much to choose from, we’ve been hit with a mountain of goodies this year.
I have nominated a little known community member, Oriskany. His work is hard to find, but if you stumble across it, you might find it a good read 🙂 Also, I second both the @unclejimmy nomination as his unofficial weekender threads tend to always bring a smile to my face and provide a great resource to find new music and the @chrisg nomination for his consistent support of the sight and his initiation of the World Wide D Day Challenge.
…i’m blushing. It’s mot like i’ve never been ‘wanted’ before!
In no particular order, have say @oriskany, @unclejimmy and @chrisg for all the points that have already been raised above.
…i’m a god damn sexual tyranosaurus! See how many ‘extinct’ jokes we can get. It’s not because I like you lot either. I really do though!
It was like the first time I went to Games Day. We strode around like gods. I thought I was a bit geeky, but in there I was a giant. And I had kissed a girl…
Tyrannosaurus? Holy crap, is this uncle jimmy or uncle JESSE? “He ain’t got time to bleed,” folks! 🙂
Why not sub-categories in best miniatures game this year?
Or perhaps have a category for best, small independent game?
Otherwise, the industry giants will always get the awards.
There were very few game new minis games released by ‘industry giants’ this year. Star Wars: Armada by FFG and Kings of War 2nd ed by Mantic are the only two I can think of which would fit that category, and I did make a list of minis games released this year. Parsing out the awards with any more granularity starts to become counter-productive. My vote is going on one of the highest profile new games of 2015, Guild Ball, which is a game by two guys who raised a bit of money on KS to launch it, pretty much… Read more »
Missed Age of Sigmar by GW off the list. I wouldn’t be surprised if Frostgrave gets more nominations that AoS.
I seen it mentioned a few time but what classes a games company as Independent?.
I believe it’s to do with self publishing vs via a publisher
In our industry it’s more (mistakenly) attributed to company size, but the reality is almost all companies including GW are independents if the above definition is correct… if!
I’ve the opposite problem of many others, there are too little I can nominate. I’ve gotten a few new games this year, but it turns out they were released 2014 or 2013. I’ve only one gaming supplement from this year, so I’ll have to nominate that. I haven’t bought any new models, or rather the ones I bought turns out to have been released 2014 or 2013 yet again.
I’m just too slow it seems.
same here.
I’m not sure if it is a problem when we’re still enjoying the stuff from last year though 😉
I’ve bought and seen too little to nominate something in every category.
Best paint-job :

Sculpted by LEBEN models, painted by CMON Wilgor, whose work is always amazing.
That is a mighty fine piece, but it didn’t get my nomination 🙂
And done.
Can we make more than one nomination per category @warzan ? Obviously we won’t be able to vote more than once per category, but at the moment you’re just trying to see what is deserving of being on the ballot paper, right?
And if we fill in the form and then think of something else cool, can we come back and fill in another form?
I think we should keep forum members nominations private, as should the vote.
It may not be a user who posts a lot but has substance when they do. Some names do indeed leap more readily than others to mind but, there’s at least 4, maybe 6 that would have been worth a mention so lets not try to direct peoples thoughts to just the few. Even where they are certainly honourable mentions.
Didn’t we last year get a list with each question so we don’t have to wonder what did actually got released this year? I had to use boardgamegeek to have a clue (some of the best games I’ve played apparently were already released in 2014).
These lists were definitely also helpful when having to nominate things like best artwork and the such. Now there’s like 1000 pieces of artwork released this year among all the different new boardgames and wargames (and expansions). How do you pick one?
Really looking forward to what the community came up with. 🙂
Last year it was broken down by genre rather than release date or game type, at least for the games, so you could nominate anything, you just had to figure out which genre it belonged to.
This is the nomination phase to help choose what goes through to the actual voting phase 🙂
Aaah, I see. 😀
I probably missed last year’s nomination phase then and stepped in at the voting phase. :p
i was hoping for a sculptor and not a sculpt category!^^
i would’ve voted for sandra garrity!^^
Nominate something Sandra sculpted this year 🙂
sorry but the acmon from aleph imho is superior!^^
it would be more an oscar to the career, for her marvellous work scuplting monsters and dragons in particular!^^
Why not write a profile on Sandra and her work for the site? 🙂
Many of us don’t know any sculptors names so would be hard for us vote when we have to go through all of there work to decide
It would be a close run thing between Sandra and Julie Guthrie
I get the point to have busts as best paintjobs but….. i don’t agree.
I’ll explain why:
i think we have to keep separate gaming from PURE art, and i tend to prefer ANY gaming pieces over a stunning piece of art, even in dioramas i tend to favor those with detachable bases, so you can use the miniature!^^
it’s also a way to “lower the stick” and let more people to compete, otherwise there are like what…. something like 100 ppl worldwide that can compete?^^
I’m tempted to agree and will feed that back to the volunteer group overseeing this process 🙂
Well, i think the point is to define the “gaming” noun….
ther’s no correct answer per se imho….
it’s subjective, in my mind when i think of gaming it’s synonymous to “Something that could be used in some kind of game”.
Painting though, embraces a huge range of categories.
I think the best way is to leave the nominations open and filter them with a direction you have in mind, explaining it to the audience!^^
Done, interested to see what makes the cut for voting
A mystery box, it could even be a boat, you know we always wanted a boat.
This past year we had many people in the community add to the BoW experience, from @oriskany doing the alternate war blog to many paint themed coverage.
As for me, I chose @happyhowler as he is the guy that inspired me to pick up my brush again and start painting. He also has a genuine kind personality.
Wait a second- there’s no RPG category. And this year saw the release of Iron Kingdoms Unleashed.
I hope I just missed it somehow. And that someone else feels the same way about IKU.
This year saw a lot of great miniatures board games released- Journey, The Forgotten King, Kingdom Death and Blood Rage just to name a few. It’s tough to narrow it down.
Gah!! Finally submitted… some choices were straight out no question definites. The rest took me two weeks to decide. 😀
