Morning guys,
Really liking the choices Bolt Action made for Team Yankee and the British forces. Although the Kelly’s Heroes stuff has triggered my shiny syndrome having grew up watching that film.
Really looking forward to Dropfleet as I was lucky enough to grab a place on the Dec Boot Camp.
Same time tomorrow for the XLBS 🙂
Good morning! It will be interesting week!
I palatably ache for the Kelly’s Heroes set.
Just for a bit if trivia. The Tiger used in Kelly’s Heroes was originally from the Yugoslavian film The Battle of Neretva
‘Rigid.’ – Warren, BoW.
A new show…
Can’t wait! 🙂
Kellys Heroes kit looks awesome.. Team Yankee is also beginning to intrigue..
Really looking forward to seeing how John painted the Iron Maiden stuff, it looked very good.
Great show; right I’m off to watch Kelly’s Heroes now.
Looks like Team Yankee finally gets a little more shape. Really looking forward to what comes next for this game.
So. About that Dropfleet Coverage…
…where is it..? Because it certainly wasn’t even mentiined in the “Dave got a suntan” section.
Lol
Those painted Iron Maiden units from John are very cool. I might be a little sad but I’d totally watch a show where John picks a tank / unit from history, waxes lyrical about the history of the vehicle then maybe shows examples of models for that tank/unit/model from varying companies and scales. I find it hilarious that most people who watch this show will be sneaking off to watch Kelly’s Heroes today. I did the same thing when I saw the announcement of the miniatures. I know when I get into a new project I like to hoover up… Read more »
One of my all time favourite film characters
Oddball: Hi, man.
Big Joe: What are you doing?
Oddball: I’m drinking wine and eating cheese, and catching some rays, you know.
Big Joe: What’s happening?
Oddball: Well, the tank’s broke and they’re trying to fix it.
Big Joe: Well, then, why the hell aren’t you up there helping them?
Oddball: [chuckles] I only ride ’em, I don’t know what makes ’em work.
Big Joe: Christ!
Oddball: Definitely an antisocial type. Woof, woof, woof! That’s my other dog imitation.
It’s (half-way through) the Weekend!! Frustrating weekend waiting for some KS bundles to materialise so I can get on with hobby, including DFC. Interesting tweet showing Dave from Hawk in filming stuff… let’s see what he has to say.
Ho-hum, there’as always the plasyoc mountain…
T-72 rules!
At last, been waiting for the Chieftains, will definitely get some of these now.
Hopefully my dropfleet pledge will arrive this week also got team Yankee brits due Monday
Did you get any confirmation from Hawk that they were shipping your pledge yet ?
I haven’t seen anything yet aside from the generic announcement recently.
I’m estimating it’ll be a few more weeks as I doubt they can pack&ship +/- 4000 orders within less than two months (assuming 20 work days / month, 100 orders per day …).
Now finally an excuse to get into Team Yankee
New Team Yankee stuff is going to eat into my Bolt Action hobby time 🙂
This won’t win me a prize but Hawk have screwed the DfC release, after all the promises it seems that those who ordered retail will get an actual starter box instead of the contents of said starter thrown into an overly large cardboard box.
Disappointing as they refused to alter the starter contents when it was requested during the kickstarter, yet send the whole lot out as loose items.
I’m a KS backer, but I don’t get what you’re saying the problem is. Retail gamers are going to get a copy of the starter set? What’s wrong with that?
I haven’t been following the updates closely so I may have missed announcements and controversies, but I’ve always been fairly relaxed about these things. I accept that with a KS you pledge and then just wait until it’s ready, regardless of whatever the estimated timings were.
What he means is that the starters going out to retail are going to be your standard shrink wrapped boxes similar to the Dropzone starter box. But so far according to all the backers that have recieved their stuff, it has just been the contents of the retail box (but no actual box), thrown loose into a large cardboard packing box with all the extra bits. This has pissed people off because during the kickstarter Hawk refused to let people change the starter fleets as they were a prepacked item. That has now been proven to be a lie and… Read more »
>That has now been proven to be a lie and they could have easily just stuck a different set of sprues in the package
Except of it’d probably f… up the entire production queue trying to cast what’s essentially a set separately to tailor it to individual customer’s precious needs, raising cost and slowing the whole thing down. Nothing that involves logistics is *easy*.
To be honest. Although it woukd have been nice i’m personally not to bothered about it. I was just clarifyimg how others feel.
Not sure how it would up the cost or feck everything up though. The numbers would have been known beforehand and it would just mean casting extra during the production run. (Which would cost next to nothing to do once it was set up.) Logistics also means next to nothing in this case as they have to pick and pack everyones pledge individually anyway as nobody would have bought the exact same thing..
@tasker every time you add a choice you are massively affecting logistics and increasing the likelihood of mistakes (which you end up paying for in more postage, more product, more packaging) This is exactly the sort of decision, which has caused huge issues in other Kickstarters (that caused a lot of complaining) and is now why more and more Kickstarters, are settling for a reduced grand total, but a simpler product to pack and ship. A prepacked item, (IMHO) has nothing to do with the box and everything to do with the production and packing lines – to ship quickly… Read more »
I really do understand what you are trying to say but I’m not sure it counts in this regard. People are saying that it’s not prepackaged as they aren’t supplying the retail box. I grant that the individual starters might be packaged in bubble wrap or plastic bag, but they still have to grab said bags to put in the despatch box with the package containing the books etc… They have to grab all of the added extra starters and other add ons that people pledged for during the kickstarter (lets assume those are all bagged into starters etc, too)… Read more »
Some KS backers are not pleased that they’re not getting the actual starter box, just the contents.
I’m a backer and I don’t mind, I don’t need the box for anything. Overall, as very successful Kickstarters go, IMO Hawk is doing excellent job of being late only few months. Also we’re getting lot more pages in the rulebook than originally expected.
Backers have received the starter set a a loose collection of components
Hawk is still a pretty small company with limited manpower and resources. I don;t care that my pledge won’t have the starter sets in the boxes.. since those are the first things to find their way into a bin once it’s done with. Also, this was their first kickstarter, and it’s aim as to make the range largely plastic, which they achieved. I think they managed it well. And at the end of the day backing for a “2 player starter box” is like going into a shop to buy the product, the fact that it doesn’t come in it’s… Read more »
Just glad I’m waiting for a retail version. As for throwing boxes away, I’ve still got my box from the battlefleet gothic starter set from 1999, but I’m more of a collector than a gamer, so I can see why some people are pissed off in that respect. But saying that I agree about the set, a starter set is what it is, set. The extra manpower involved in customization of a starter set for everyone’s individual needs would be quite high, so I can see why they didn’t want to swap bits around. And as the old saying goes,… Read more »
It would have been nice though, but then again they never promised an actual starter set.
Dear me get a life, and stop moaning people wait for the delivery and enjoy it
A lot of people keep their games in the box they come in, so lack of a box is very important to those people. Not everyone has a huge studio full of shelves and containers to keep things in. 🙂
Also. Commodorerob… could you be any more condecending if you tried..?
I am waiting for my rather large DFC pledges (plural) to arrive but I will not pass any judgement on them until I see them in the flesh. There has been some discussion of warped resin on the FB page but apparently warm water works to solve that issue (we’ll see).
Team Yankee – I still maintain that the Germans have the best and sexiest kit. Leopard 2 eats Chieftans for breakfast.
Special rules may include reference to the paint rounds ‘Because they look awesome man’
From Kelly’s Heroes (1970) Oddball: This engine’s been modified by our mechanical genius here, Moriarty. Right? Moriarty: Whatever you say, babe.
Great to see the Team Yankee stuff. I had a brilliant time at the bootcamp but am now waiting for a few more players to get involved near me. Hopefully the Brits will inspire them. Also I have to thank you for mentioning the Arcworlde KS. I’m a huge fan of theirs. I saw them at Salute and was hooked on the game, and their lovely models, instantly. Anyone who likes some quirky, skirmish fantasy has to give this a look. How can you say no to a game where your troll can eat your opponent’s models and your orks… Read more »
Morning all. Bring on the DFC stuff. One backer patiently here.
Loving the Oddball Sherman!
Also getting very excited about the Dropfleet stuff coming out soon and of course the Bootcamp 😎
Speaking of I’m intrigued by the announcement of two more Bootcamps early in the new year..
If one of them is has got anything to do with Bolt Action or K47 I’m gonna be all over it.
Team Yankee goes from strength to strength with every new release it seems.
I really have to paint all my Leopards soon now to justify the purchase of the Iron Maiden stuff
😉
