The Melusai Slither Into Age Of Sigmar Next Weekend
February 26, 2018 by brennon
The Daughters Of Khaine from Games Workshop's Age Of Sigmar are getting themselves some additional miniatures next weekend with the Melusai breaking up into both the Blood Sisters & Blood Stalkers...
These Khainite Cultists have been blessed with powers from the beyond, and offer up plenty of new and interesting mechanics for your games on the tabletop. As well as coming together as either a unit of melee fighters or as a ranged option, they are looking like the kind of unit you want to drop into the mix to help build the aesthetic of your force under Morathi.
We saw a lot of people liking the previews for this particular releases when the first teaser video arrived and so it will be nice to have them as part of your force now. You might even find they have access to some powerful magical abilities gifted to them by otherworldly powers.
Ancient Ruins
As well as these models you'll also be able to pick up the Blasted Hallowheart Terrain Set.
This is a selection of versatile ruins which can be used on all manner of boards within the world of the Mortal Realms and you also get two different battle boards which either bring to life an infested jungle, or the volcanic plains of some ruined realm.
It sounds like a rather nice set for someone who wants some additional character pieces to help give your tabletop that finishing touch. Or, indeed for someone who is just starting out considering they come in coloured plastic!
What do you think of the coming releases?

If the ruins and gameboard kit is anything like the “graveyard” one I will be keeen for that my mate has it and we we have played our last few Shyish games on it and it is quick, easy and packs up very nicely.

Oh, okay, and the medusa elves look okay too …. but you know they are elves so I am pretending they don’t exist ……. Best way to deal with elves……. honest.
You think if they had short staunch torsi, stunty arms, and short heavy weapons in big hairy fists you would probably fall for them?
…oh, it’s a matter of ancient debate, but with finely combed and woven beards over their tits.:P
From the sizes on the box it look like the 40k luna/mars one, so card.
Are they elves? I thought they were more Naga.
Yeah, snakes give me the creeps. I do like spiders.
…for real. Got nothing to do with this topic being about dark elves.
Still, there’s a very ‘tempting’ pull about these. Surely that Ancient Greece vibe is playing into this. But that’s not all to it. The half-snake-elf image from the 90ies book I always found appealing.
These are the units that might finally get me to play AoS . . . but their release is a little too close to Star Wars Legion perhaps :/
I like the new Serpent theme, and the serpent bows are a nice touch
Almost tempted to pick up a box of them (i don’t play AOS)!
That terrain kit is also very tempting, i’d use it for Frostgrave Ghost Archipeligo, it would go perfectly with the snake men 😉
Sorely tempted to buy a box of those danger noodles…
I remember buying some Judicator bows on Ebay to try and convert some space marine scouts into archers. It was a disaster because not only were the bows too big, but so were the Judicator hands attached to them and the arrows.
These bows, however, they might work,,,
These aren’t working for me. Just OK after that big snaky thing they put out earlier. Too static maybe.
Amazing; have GW decided to take a break from trying to lure in the children with space marines and super heroes and instead taken a chance going after the weeaboos and monstergirl fans?
Or maybe they just took some cues from, oh I don’t know, ancient Mythology such as that of Greece and Babylon?
Twas a joke, my friendo. More poking fun at the extreme super marine inundation than the refreshingly new stuff. I just wish one or two of the snek bodies had more motion to them, like they were slithering along the ground instead of standing up and aiming/shooting.
GW just hasn’t broken the code, it seems, on creating movement in a computer generated model. Every release looks stiff… but at least these have moved away from the outrageous clutter of recent offerings.
I suspect that might be as much to do with base size as anything else.
Doubt it.
Doubt away. But when GW make a set of miniatures they want them all to fit on the exact same base size, hence they’re all in the upright position rather than “slithering along the floor”
That’s a limited viewpoint; not all movement needs to be horizontal. They could easily be coiled around a rocky spire, such as Bushido naga are, and of course there are many other ways to portray movement, such as an arched back following the line of a serpentine tail, or even sculpting greater tension in the drawn bows. These bows cry ‘nerf’. Their arrows should have suction cups on the end. There are models out there perched on bases smaller than GW’s that convey movement effectively. Look at Creature Caster mini’s. They’re larger, of course, but they’ve gone to the effort… Read more »
And if you look, Morathi is coiled around a rocky spire. But in a kit with interchangeable parts, you are limited in what you can do and still maintain the interchangeability and maintain a consistent base size. There’s quite a lot of design constraints on GW miniatures and they place a high degree of emphasis of customisability. So you find their rank and file troops might have more limited posing where their character models don’t. Bushido make individual sculpts for a very small warband size, much like Infinity, and so it makes sense to treat every miniature almost as a… Read more »
Are these the most dynamic miniatures ever? No.
Are they the best examples of serpent people? No.
Does this make them poor models? No.
Don’t forget the models are designed to be a bulk unit. If you’re looking for something to use as a one off monster or centrepiece, perhaps in an RPG, then these aren’t what you want because there are better examples.
Look. A heated agreement… 🙂 Actually, I’ve just had enough “Burn the dissenter” for one day.
Heated? You’re slipping man.
Not at all. You’ve confirmed everything I said. Thank you.
I’m sure they’ll release something for serious and mature gamers soon. The Fedoracast M’ladyeth will be a great hit.
There’s a range of puritan nuns on the way. They eschew all forms of violence and sexuality and fun. They sound perfect for you.
Can I please have a warband of those snake ladies for Shadespire? Pretty please?
Not a big fan of drip feed releases though I can see why they do them. I will wait until all the units are released now before I buy I think. Then I can binge build and paint. Love the new look.
Ooh nice snakeladies and the ruins look adaptable for many table’s.
Ruins without skulls… looks good.
A nice take on another redesigned faction. But not my taste beside being expensive as Hell. I think the digital sculpting is too smooth. I really miss character in those newer models. 🙁
While I don’t acre about AoS I must say that those Medusai are looking ratter good but that terrain piece is highlight of those upcoming releases. I could see myself using it in some other fantasy miniatures game.
Scenary looks alright, but why not a standard game board size?
Medusa are fairly nice, lacking some of the sinister menace of morathi.
Quite excited about these ladies and can’t wait to get my hands on them & Morathi.
